One of the most remarkable truths about Jesus is that He was fully God and fully human.

Sometimes we focus so much on His divinity that we miss what His humanity teaches us.

Jesus didn’t simply reveal God’s character.

He demonstrated what humanity was created to be.

His compassion.
His courage.
His humility.
His obedience.
His love.

If we want to understand how to live the life God intended, we don’t need to guess.

We can look at Jesus and follow His example.

Think about it:

People don’t usually invite the person who makes everyone uncomfortable.

Yet people constantly invited Jesus.

To weddings.
To dinner parties.
To their homes.
To their towns.

Even when He challenged them.
Even when He corrected them.

There was something about Jesus that was clearly different, yet deeply attractive.

As followers of Christ, we’re called to be “other” too.

Not because we’re better than everyone else.

But because our lives should reflect the same grace, truth, love, and presence that made people want Jesus around.

A Weekend of Celebration, Calling, and God’s Faithfulness ❤️

This past weekend, we had the privilege of attending the Commissioning Weekend of the Keepers of the Covenant Session and celebrating God’s faithfulness in the lives of those He has called to serve through Salvation Army officership.

As a corps family, we rejoiced as Cadets Joshua Wesbee, Mykaella Morales, and Luis Ortiz were commissioned as Salvation Army officers.

For our Port Jervis Corps, this weekend was especially meaningful. Lieutenant Joshua Wesbee grew up in our corps family, was nurtured in faith here, and answered God’s call to ministry. To witness his commissioning was a powerful reminder that God continues to raise up servants from among us to share the hope of Jesus Christ with the world.

We were also thrilled to celebrate Lieutenants Myka and Luis, who faithfully served as our Winter Cadets this year. Their ministry, friendship, and leadership have been a tremendous blessing to our corps, and it was a joy to stand alongside them as they were commissioned into officership.

This weekend reminded us that God’s call is alive and active. We thank Him for raising up men and women who are willing to say “yes” to serving Him wherever He leads.

Please join us in praying for:
🙏 Lieutenant Joshua Wesbee
🙏 Lieutenants Myka and Luis Ortiz
🙏 All of the newly appointed officers of the Keepers of the Covenant Session

May God bless them as they begin this new chapter of ministry and service.

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

During one of the darkest seasons of my life, I felt God speaking specific promises over my future.

But instead of responding with confidence, I said:
“Lord, I don’t believe You… but I want to.”

What surprised me wasn’t God’s promise.
It was His response.

“That’s the most honest prayer you’ve ever prayed.”

Faith isn’t always certainty.

Sometimes faith is the willingness to bring your doubts, fears, and struggles into God’s presence and keep saying:

“I want to believe.”

And God can work with that kind of honesty.

The world constantly tells us who we should be.

Culture changes.
Opinions change.
Trends change.

Jesus doesn’t.

His disciples saw something different in Him—something so compelling that they wanted to learn how He lived, prayed, and related to God.

Commissioner Samuel Logan Brengle summarized holiness with a simple phrase:

“Holiness is Christ-likeness.”

At its core, the Christian life is about becoming more like Jesus.

Not more religious.
Not more impressive.

More like Him.

After everything Peter had been through, Jesus met him beside the sea and asked a simple but profound question:

“Do you love me more than these?”

The question wasn’t really about fishing.

It was about priority.

Would Peter place Jesus above comfort?
Above familiarity?
Above his old way of life?

Agape love is more than affection.

It’s choosing.
It’s preferring.
It’s sacrificing.

It’s the same love God demonstrated when He gave His Son for us.

And it’s the same question Jesus still asks each of us today.

Peter failed Jesus.

There was no denying it.

Yet after the resurrection, Jesus didn’t avoid the conversation.

He didn’t shame Peter.
He didn’t reject Peter.

Instead, He lovingly asked:

“Where are you now?”
“Do you love me?”

Sometimes God’s grace doesn’t look like overlooking our failures.

Sometimes it looks like meeting us in them and restoring what was broken.

That’s exactly what Jesus did for Peter—and what He still does for us.

Following Jesus isn’t just about the powerful moments.

It’s not just about church services, answered prayers, miracles, or emotional experiences.

It’s about the everyday decisions.

Opening your Bible.
Talking to God.

Choosing obedience.

Surrounding yourself with people who love Jesus.

Faithfulness isn’t built in a moment.

It’s built over a lifetime of small choices.

And from personal experience, it’s much easier to stay close to the Shepherd than it is to wander away and find your way back.

After Peter denied Jesus, he had to wonder if he had ruined everything.

Then Jesus met him face-to-face and asked:

“Do you love me?”

Three times.

It’s easy to read those questions as a rebuke.
But what if they were an act of healing?

A wounded heart being restored.
A broken disciple being reminded of who he really was.
A Savior refusing to let failure have the final word.

Maybe Jesus is asking us the same question today—not to condemn us, but to draw us closer.
