We are excited to have a new group from Stonybrook University from the Pre-Nursing and the SBSNA (Student Nurses Association) help us with our fall clean up. I wanted to provide you with an update to you from my visit with Seeds of Hope Tanzania to Africa January 2025 when I was a part of bringing the first Al-anon meeting to on the meeting Arusha, Tanzania, Africa. Our friends say the meeting is going great!John, who is our contact there has been busy speaking to local organizations andschools to spread the word of the hope of recovery.This year we also had 5 pieces of 12-step literature successfullyapproved and translated to Swahili which John has been able to pass out duringhis visits.John has recently visited and spoke to people at NeemaVillage, Zkoon, Arusha Radio, Rehabilitation Center and Arusha College. At the Neema Village, John spoke to the women and men at twodifferent times. Neema Village began asa rescue center of abandoned orphans, at-risk babies and works to reunitefamilies and help mothers with daycare for babies with disabilities. Zkoon is a health and wellness company in Tanzania thatspecializes in nutritional products and John passed out some brochures.John was also invited to be a guest on a local Radio Stationin Arusha, at a college sports event, a primary school and also gets to speakregularly to men and women in a local Rehabilitation Center. At each event John talked about addiction and he shares the hope of recovery. We are excited about this progress and will keep you informed.

We were proud to be highlighted by the Times Beacon Record News Media celebrating their 50th Anniversary when we joined Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay, the Reboli Center for Art and History, and community partners for a special National Recovery Month Rock Painting Night.

We are so grateful to have Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay for inviting Sunshine to partner with her and the Reboli Center in recognition of National Recovery Month. We also joined with the Suffolk County Police Department, The YMCA, The Town of Brookhaven Drug Prevention Coalition and the Purple Rock Foundation for this special night that community members came together to paint kindness rocks and create a community rock snake featuring messages and images of hope, inspiration, healing and strength. Whether someone is currently facing addition, is in recovery, supports a loved one, or has lost someone to addiction, this project will serve as a visible message of support, compassion, and hope! We also appreciate the board members, Sunshine staff, friends and families that came out to support us too!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the wonderful students from Stony Brook University, the Pre-PA Program, Comsewogue School District's National Honor Society, and Newfield High School’s National Honor Society for generously volunteering their time this weekend to help brighten our facility and make a difference in our community! 💛

From painting and gardening to supporting our Giving Closet event, welcoming families, organizing donations, and lending a helping hand wherever needed, these amazing students brought energy, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything they did!

Your hard work not only helped beautify our facility but also created a more welcoming environment for the children and families we serve.

Thank you for sharing your time, talents, and hearts with Sunshine! Your commitment to community service is a beautiful reminder that when we work together, we can make a lasting difference. 🌻

We’re opening our Giving Closet for a small pop-up event this Saturday from 9:30–11:30 AM (or until supplies last). Current Sunshine families can arrive a half hour earlier.

Everything is FREE, and families are welcome to stop by and see what they can use!
We’ll have a variety of brand new (and gently used) FREE items available, including:• Clothing in various sizes
• Halloween costumes & decorations
• Miscellaneous school supplies
• Household and family items
• And more!

We were glad to be involved in the Town of Brookhaven’s Train Car Night, as our community went purple in recognition of National Recovery Month. 💜

It was a special evening of coming together to raise awareness, celebrate recovery, remember those we have lost, and share an important message of hope, healing, and support.

We are grateful to be part of a community that reminds others that recovery is possible and HOPE is always worth sharing. 💜
