Over the past few months, Dr. Carter had the privilege of working with the amazing 5th grade students from Ms. Foster's class at Boyle Road Elementary School. As part of our leadership program, the students chose to focus their assembly on the important topic of Appreciation of Diversity.

Every student played an important role in bringing the production to life. Some became puppeteers, others served as readers, created activities, designed scenery, managed sound, and helped behind the scenes. Through weeks of planning, practicing, problem-solving, and encouraging one another, they discovered that leadership isn't just about being in the spotlight—it's about teamwork, responsibility, creativity, and using your unique strengths to make a difference.

Yesterday, all of their hard work paid off as they proudly presented their assembly to the 3rd grade classes. Watching these students grow in confidence, find their voices, and become positive role models for younger peers was truly inspiring.

We are so proud of each and every one of them for embracing the message that our differences make us stronger and for demonstrating what true leadership looks like. 💙☀️

Our staff and students in Sunshine’s Alternative Program did an outstanding job designing and leading engaging spring workshops for Ms. Foster’s fifth-grade students from Boyle Road Elementary School.

The students enjoyed a fun-filled day of crafts, circus tricks, dancing, and preparing healthy snacks.

It was truly wonderful to watch our students step into leadership roles with confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm while creating a memorable experience for the younger students.

We are so proud of the leadership, teamwork, and positive energy our students demonstrated throughout the day! ☀️💛

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing mothers from The Beading Hearts for visiting Sunshine and sharing their powerful stories with students in our Alternative Education Program.
These courageous women have transformed the loss of their children into a mission of hope, healing, and support for others affected by addiction and overdose.
We are so grateful for the beautiful handmade beads they gifted to our students and staff as a reminder that love, connection, and healing are always possible.

The Beading Hearts is a Long Island-based nonprofit offering bereavement support, community outreach, and education to help break the stigma surrounding addiction and overdose loss.

Today at 11:45am these two people came to our center… let themselves into our shed and stole baskets meant for our upcoming fundraiser.
Unfortunately our cameras didn’t catch much(we will get that fixed asap). It’s a shame, because if you know us, we would have given these women the baskets if they asked!!!
Our shed is currently holding donated items that are given to the our community members in need for FREE! If you are in need please just ask us, no need to steal it!

If you recognize this car or two women please let them know we are hurt and would really appreciate our items back.
