Meet your intern Avery Awe!

Avery goes to school at Saginaw Valley State University, studying to become a Special Education teacher. She is also studying American Sign Language and is hoping to become fluent in the future. Some of her hobbies consist of reading, tennis, pickle ball, and spending time with her friends and family. Avery is looking forward to becoming a stronger leader and hopes to further her education of God this summer at camp.

Please join me in welcoming Avery to KDN 2024!!

Kids Discovery Network - Week 6

From Sam Irish~
Hey everyone!! We did it!! KDN has had another successful and awesome summer! Thanks again to all of you who have come here to provide your time and resources. For our final week we looked at transformation in the Bible looking at the story of Jesus’ resurrection and the story of the apostle Paul. We also had fun enjoying the outdoors playing a lot of NukEm and dodgeball! We ended our week by giving out awards to each camper. Our last field trip was at SawMill City and the kids had a lot of fun! The adult had fun too but we all had to take long naps after a fun but tiring day! I just want to say my time at KDN has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had. I also want to thank all of the volunteers that have come out of their way to help create more fun and excitement for the kids! So special thanks to: Annie Timm, Barb Hurd, Bernie and Jeannine Schneider, Renee Hernandez, Nancy Kulman, Abby Crawford, and finally Jennifer Ward for graciously taking over for a week while I was gone. I also want to thank the drivers we had for field trips and also all those who cooked lunches for us. But of course the most important part is that the kids had a great summer that has helped them build new friendships through Christ! So for one final time thank YOU for helping out at KDN! Thanks everyone!

Photo: before entering the Chapel for worship, everyone removes their shoes to show respect for this holy space.

KDN ~ Week 5

From Sam Irish~
Hey everyone! Glad to be back this week after a wonderful week at Lake Louise! This week was a busy one with many crafts and a lotta laughs! We started the week with a Michigan canvas drawing and then we made our very own tie dye shirts! Our Bible theme this week was connections with a deeper look into what it means to be a Christian and how we can stay connected and make new connections! I want to thank each one of you for your continued support of this program! The kids are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive church family this year! As we wind down the year at KDN I just wanted everyone of you to know that this program is as much of the kids as it is yours and I want you to know that we have had another successful year here! Thank you all and here’s to a great last week!

KDN ~ Week 4
From Jennifer Ward~
Hello FUMC Family! Wow! What an exciting week we had at KDN.
This week’s theme was how Jesus provided for his people by making sure they didn’t go hungry and were always fed. We dived into lessons about Manna from Heaven, Feeding the 5000 and
The Last Supper. We played games, sang worship songs, made crafts, enjoyed a few games of Volleyball and made new friends. Our field trip this week was at the Pine River Nature Center,
what a fun day! Our camper count this week reached 16. Special thanks to the Schneiders for all of their help this week as well as to our lunch providers (Ann and Annie Timm, The Hurds, Julie Rock and Debbie Timm). Shout out to Renee Hernandez and Tom Norager for being our field trip drivers. The support FUMC provides to KDN is much appreciated! I sure enjoyed my week with the children while Sam was at Middle School Camp, and can’t wait to see them when I come back as Sam’s helper. Have a great week and God Bless!

KDN - Week 3

From Sam Irish:
Hey everyone! We had another exciting week at KDN! This week's theme was a continuation of people around the world. We looked at the story of Moses and how God can use anyone despite what they have done and who they were! We also spent all week working on our KDN sign and we had everyone pitch in their very own design into it. Unfortunately we had to cancel our field trip due to the rain but we had an awesome day inside enjoying movies! We also had two new campers join us this week bringing us to a total of 21! Thank you all for your generosity and care you have shown me as well as the kids!
