It is Believed The first Irish settlers arrived to Ireland on Beltane a day celebrated on May 1st.

Like most celebrations fire is another way to celebrate Beltane, But where does the name come from is it purely Gaelic no that is a Misconception

Because it is Believed it was celebrated through different Celtic people's

Beltane is celebrated in the name of Bel , Belenus Belanus Belenos Belinos

Whome is a Healing God associated with the end of Winter and the healing of life he is a Sun and Rain God he spread through out The British ises ises of man whatever term you prefer and across the Italian Peninsula Lingones being celts who lived in the Italian Peninsula.

In ancient Ireland it is Believed that two fires would be used to walk animals through to prevent illness and Diseases.

Nuada Believed to be the son of Belenus do to the Compariment of Lludd Llaw Eraint of Wales both Believed to have lost their arms in battle Beli Mawr being speculated by many Scholars to be Belenus because of Brittions & Welsh in ancient times have Related Tye's to Gaul.

And because it is a Speculation that could be why on Beltane we Celebrate Belenos him alone and the end of Winter.

However Traditions may vary for multiple reasons Belenos is widely spread through out Europe and was through out The ancient world with Old ways around to a degree as well as A more Modern way of Celebrating.

The Iron Age Celts' clothes might have looked like the tartan you see in Scotland and Ireland today, with checks and stripes. The Celts used berries and plants to dye the wool different colours.

The Romans tell us that some of them painted patterns all over their bodies with blue woad made of a special plant. Which then inspired Trews & Kilts in the 15 hundreds and 17 hundreds.

Maybe even at one point similar to Tweeds which the terminology wasn't till 19 hundreds it is more likely that tweets and Tartans are originally Celtic influenced during the Roman period which inspired hundreds of years later trews tweeds and Tartans.

Roman's describes Celts wearing pants like checkered like style believing the iron age celts invented Pants.

Traditionally, Sheelah's Day was and or Sheelaghs day celebrated the day after the Feast of St. Patrick and coincided with the Christian festivities. According to Irish folklore and mythology, Sheelah was either the wife or mother of St. Patrick, and the holiday served to commemorate her life. That is incorrect it is A fertility holiday

And All Celtic ceremonies as we come to understand have feast and or fires

So if not The Mother of St.Patrick who is Sheelagh

Sheelagh which derives from
Sheela na gig depictions of her are a Female deity being and or person spreading her female reproductive organ indicating she is a fertility goddess she can be found on churches and castle's. The most known findings are in Ireland France and Spain British ises / Ise of man/ Celtic ises & across Gaul some say the carvings we're used to keep evil spirits away mainly because they we're found to be is Anglo Saxon & Anglo Norman regions dating back 10 through the 12th Century. They also could be put on Display to represent Sin a woman's Lust as The church would have put it in those time's. And others not facing the Proper Direction of Veiwing which Indecates they were added to The Christian Church during those times of findings in the 10th and or 12th Century. Other Historians and archaeologist believe the Sheelagh and or Sheela na gig may be inspired by a Celtic Goddess from Pagan Time's one Story tells of The Gaels story of the Callieach whome is a Old Hag Responsible for the Winter Months. Why was she worshipped? Well it is Believed that she could bring health and wealth among those she has Sexual Relations with. Which reminds me of the Bean Nighe but instead of Fortune being told you get much more and besides winter being added into the Mix but both Old Hags who can give what you want so there's been other Old Hag stories of Said beings The Callieach is Believed to have been Irish and Scottish so belonging To The Gaels, The Welsh also have a Hag like being known as The Loathly lady.

She is said to become Younger with having Sexural Relations which is a Similar Celtic Story among the Celts in the Ises it is Believed The Loathly Lady was Cursed into being a Old Hag but of course

The Loathly lady has been around sense the Time of The tales Of King Arthur it is Believed when the Church was expanding in Cornwall England and Wales the King Arthur was based on a person whome drove the Saxons out. Which is 5th through 7th Century which is Earlier than most think of.

When it comes to The Medevil period also there's alot to Disprove it as well but that can be a later Topic just keeping in mind That from 12th Century to 5th Century to earlier such beings are said to go hand in hand with Sheelagh na gig, Sheelah na Gig , Sheela na gig so you can see why The Sheela na gig May have Earlier Pagan Influences.

Loathly to mean to hate or be Spitful or Repulsive and Showing a Woman's Reproductive organ spread between their legs as you can see by A Christian veiw if that is the Proper wording may be Unlawful or Repulsive or Disgraceful as it is looked at as a Sin that they're Abrahamic God may not except in the Catholic world.

Just that alone you can see how The Church May have Adopted the said being.

Also what Adds on To Sheela na gig being The Winter Hag of The Gaels is it Translates to Hag and Or Old Breast or Hags Breast.
