The world is celebrating the power of community science for World Migratory Bird Day this Saturday, May 9 with the theme “Every Bird Counts – Your Observation Matter.” You don’t need to be a professional researcher to help protect our shared natural world. Every bird you spot and record helps scientists track migration patterns and protect vital habitats.

Getting involved is as easy as stepping outside and paying attention to the local species passing through your neighborhood or favorite park. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned nature lover, your participation helps track trends that professional researchers couldn't monitor alone.

We encourage everyone to join this global movement by recording observations through local apps and by practicing ethical bird watching from a respectful distance. Your curiosity today directly fuels the conservation efforts of tomorrow, ensuring these spectacular journeys continue for generations to come.

Installation of riparian buffers in Jefferson County. https://youtu.be/b0owA0TnitI

These plants were installed through voluntary stewardship on private land using funds from the Washington State Conservation Commission Natural Resource Investments Grant and the Riparian Grant Program, which includes funding from the Climate Commitment Act.

The Washington State Conservation Corps Crew planted native plants and installed seedling protection tubes, which will be removed when the trees and shrubs outgrow competing vegetation and are large enough to survive rodent herbivory.

This video project has been funded wholly or in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency under assistance agreement PC-01J22301 through the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The contents of this document do not necessarily reflect the views and policies of the Environmental Protection Agency or the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, nor does mention of trade names or commercial products constitute endorsement or recommendation for use.
