During the 3rd week of the Merry Hearts Wellness program, June 3, 2026 at Mississippi Cultural Crossroads the ladies were ready for exercise at 9:30 am sharp. As usual, they started off with a low impact exercise routine followed by Ms. Theresa Jackson of the EFNEP nutrition program with the Alcorn State University Extension Department. They discussed the importance of a well balanced breakfast and different foods that can be substituted to give you a nutritional morning snack. They did several word games, won a few prizes and had an open discussion sbout their current breakfast intake. Before leaving, she lead them in a brisk walk around the gallery and a few stretches to some upbeat music. Next on the agenda was a visit from Alcorn State University radio station, WPRL, 91.7 FM. ASU radio station employees, Jerome Myles Sr. and Myrtle Hedrick spoke to the ladies about the inner workings of a radio station, explained differences between a PSA and a commercial and allowed the ladies to produce psa announcements and actual say them online. Now of course, gifts are always welcomed and WPRL brought their share. The lunch was sponsored by WPRL and served by the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The day didn't end with lunch, we moved right into the art for the Heart project of the day. With all the homemakers and cooks in the class, the modge podge glass cake platters were a hit along with modge podge coasters. Both were designed using paper napkins. They were gorgeous, user friendly to make and exciting to see the finished product. Mississippi Arts Commission
