Hey Neighbor!

September is almost here, and it’s a big one at Community Connecting Us, because it's Pirate Season! That's right we are just weeks away from CCU's biggest event of the year when we partner with the town of Port Deposit to bring our neighbors pirates, mermaids, artisans, performers, and some tasty grub. We hope to see you at the 5th Annual Port Deposit Pirate Takeover a free event to bring the community together.

Of course, we can’t imagine pirates not being your thing. And, on the off chance they aren’t, there are plenty of other ways to spend time with neighbors this month. Move your body with yoga, learn and create together at Sewing Project Club, bring your yarn to Knit Don’t Quit, join us for a good book and even better conversation, or spend a Sunday browsing Once Upon a Tome and creating in the Ace Space Creative Corner.

Take a look at the calendar, find something that sounds like you, and come join us.

Sometimes community starts with something as simple as deciding to show up. We’d love to see you in September!

Hey Neighbor!

The Port Deposit Pirate Takeover is less than three weeks away! 🏴‍☠️ With an event this size comes temporary road, park, and boat ramp closures, so we’re sharing the information early to give everyone plenty of time to plan ahead.

We know these closures can be an inconvenience. Volunteers will be out helping direct traffic and keep everyone safe. Please remember they are NEIGHBORS giving their time to make this event possible, and we ask that they be treated with kindness and respect.

You may not be able to launch your boat or fish that weekend, but you CAN bring the family down to Marina Park for two days of pirates, adventure, and great family fun.

Thanks for planning ahead, being kind to our volunteers, and helping us make Pirate Takeover weekend a great one! 🏴‍☠️

TEMPORARY CLOSURE NOTICE

Residents and visitors should be aware of the following temporary closures in Port Deposit:

⚓ Marina Park Boat Launch & Fishing Area
Closed September 18–20

🚧 S. Main Street
Closed September 19 from 5:30–10 PM
Closure extends from Oyster Shell Alley to Center Street. Follow detour.

Please plan accordingly and allow extra time when traveling through the area. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these temporary closures.

What a fun day at Unicorn Quest!

There's something wonderful about an event that gives everyone permission to lean into a little whimsy, and our friends at the North East Chamber of Commerce pulled off another great one.

We're grateful they invited us to join the fun and spread the word about the upcoming Port Deposit Pirate Takeover. Before there can be pirates, apparently there must be unicorns!

And a huge thank you to our friends at The High 5 Initiative!. They have been beside us for all five years of the Pirate Takeover, and we truly could not pull off this event without them.

Good events are fun. Great events bring communities and organizations together to support one another. We are grateful to be part of both.

Now, onward to the Pirate Takeover!

🦄🏴‍☠️ PIRATES HAVE INVADED UNICORN QUEST!

A most unexpected alliance has formed in North East today... unicorns and pirates.✨

Pirates from nonprofit besties Community Connecting Us and The High 5 Initiative will be at Unicorn Quest, handing out pirate tattoos and flyers for the upcoming Port Deposit Pirate Takeover. ☠️⚓

And we have to give a hearty ARRR! to High 5, who has been one of our pirate partners for all five years of the Takeover. They’ve been part of the crew from the start, and we’re mighty grateful for them. ❤️🏴‍☠️

If ye spot us among the unicorns, come say ahoy and grab a tattoo! 🦄☠️✨

Hey Neighbor!

We have a neighbor who would like to connect with others who are participating in WeightWatchers to share encouragement, inspiration, and support along the journey.

Would you be interested in being part of a monthly or bi-monthly group like this?

If so, email [email protected] or text 443-731-6080, and we’ll help get everyone connected.

Sometimes a journey is just a little easier when we don’t walk it alone.

Hey Neighbor,

Did you know that crows are social, form strong family bonds, work together, recognize familiar faces, and have a reputation for appreciating tiny treasures?

Sounds like our kind of crowd.

Join us for CCU’s Crow Party Trinket Swap on Sunday, August 23, from 2 to 3 PM.

Dress in black (optional), bring a few small trinkets, and swap for something that catches your eye. We'll have light refreshments, and as always, the event is Pay What You Want.

Come early and browse Once Upon a Tome...A Bookshop or create with Ashley in the Ace Space Creative Corner, open 12 to 4.

A little quirky, a little creative, and very community.

Hey Neighbor,

If you stop by the Cecil County Public Library in Perryville this month, check out CCU's display "Charting a Course for Connection."

The display shares a little of who we are and what we believe: that stronger communities are built when neighbors know one another, learn together, create together, and care for one another.

We are grateful to the Cecil County Public Library for giving local organizations a place to share their stories. Libraries have always been more than shelves of books. They are gathering places where curiosity is encouraged, ideas are exchanged, and community grows.
