The Sharing Shelf

The Sharing Shelf We are committed to the whole child, from birth through age 19. Together, we create a supportive network for Westchester's children and teens.

The Sharing Shelf combats clothing insecurity by providing children and teens in need with clothing and basic essentials, empowering them to learn, grow and reach their full potential. We support children from birth to 19, supplying a week’s worth of seasonally appropriate clothing, plus essentials like diapers, toiletry kits, period products, new socks, underwear, and school supplies. Our program

s include:

Clothing Bank for everyday needs
Teen Boutique, a free store for teens
Teen Boutique Pop-Ups, off-site shopping events for low-income teens
Backpacks to School, providing filled backpacks each summer
Diaper Bank for Westchester
Basic Needs Program for diapers and hygiene essentials
Community involvement is at the heart of what we do. Volunteers—families, individuals, businesses, and groups—are essential partners in helping us make a difference. Email [email protected] to sign up for the weekly newsletter or signup on our website.

1000 backpacks packed in 2 hours. Wow 🎒✨💪🏻

Such a generous community coming together to make a difference.

Our 2026 Backpacks to School packing event was truly incredible. Thank you to our amazing volunteers, sponsors and partners, backpacks were filled with the supplies children and teens need to begin the school year feeling prepared, confident and supported.

We are so grateful to everyone who donated, packed, organized and helped bring this important program to life. Together, we are giving local children more than school supplies. We are giving them a strong start.

Thank you for being part of our journey 💙

Every child deserves to begin the school year feeling prepared, confident and ready to succeed. 🎒📚

County Executive Ken Jenkins joined The Sharing Shelf to help launch our 16th annual Backpacks to School campaign, with a goal of providing 2,000 new, fully stocked backpacks to children and teens across Westchester County.

For more than 15 years, The Sharing Shelf and the Westchester County Department of Social Services have worked together to ensure local students facing financial hardship have the supplies they need to thrive.

Thank you to County Executive Ken Jenkins and every volunteer, community partner and donor helping us make a meaningful difference for families throughout Westchester! 💙

We are halfway through 2026...wow what a year it has been!

This year, thanks to you, we've seen real growth in the number of packs distributed and items provided. Behind every clothing pack is a child walking into school feeling confident, and a family with a little more breathing room for rent, food, or medicine.

We're endlessly grateful for that growth, but it also means the need continues to rise. Every minute, more requests come in.

So, thank you for standing with us through the first half of the year. We're asking you to keep showing up with us for the months ahead.

What if something as simple as getting dressed determined whether a child felt confident walking into school?

Clothing insecurity is real, and it impacts thousands of children and families every day. Together, we can raise awareness, spark conversation, and help ensure every child has access to clean, well-fitting clothing they deserve.

Mark your calendars for September 15th,
National Clothing Insecurity Awareness Day, and join us in helping make a difference.

This Month's Volunteer Spotlight shines on The Pleasantville Lab! 🌟

In honor of Disability Pride Month, we're celebrating an incredible group that works within the Pleasantville School District to help members of their disability community integrate into the workforce.

Every time they come in to volunteer, their participants show us what teamwork, dedication, and heart really look like. The energy, hard work, and pure joy they bring to The Sharing Shelf each visit does not go unnoticed. Thank you for everything you do.

We are so lucky to have you as part of our community. 💛

So grateful to for shining a light on our newly launched "Style for Success" program and the incredible teens and young adults it's already reaching.

Seeing this story come to life on screen- the Teen Boutique, the conversations, the confidence- it meant everything to our team. This is what it looks like when a community decides that every young person deserves to walk into their first interview or job feeling ready.

We're just getting started. If you can and want to support Style for Success, please donate professional clothing, sign up to volunteer, or give a donation using the link in our bio and on the last slide.

Every piece matters.
