They’re more than just delicious! Oyster reefs create homes for fish, crabs, and shrimp, filter up to 50 gallons of water a day, and protect shorelines from storms.

But these reefs are in trouble — hit hard by overharvesting, hurricanes, and pollution. That’s why Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation and Texas Parks and Wildlife have launched the S. Reed Morian Oyster Buyback Program — offering oyster license holders a competitive rate to retire licenses and give reefs a chance to recover.

The results? 115 oyster licenses offered for retirement — a potential 21% drop in commercial oyster activity statewide. That means less harvest pressure and more time for wild oyster reefs to bounce back.

We’re proud to celebrate FOUR major legislative victories for Texas oyster farmers this session:

✅ SB 1215 – Strengthening reef restoration through viable seed requirements
✅ HB 3486 – Sales tax rebates to boost Texas farmed oyster sales
✅ HB 3487 – Expanding market opportunities for Texas farmers
✅ HB 609 – Streamlining the permitting process

These wins didn’t happen overnight — they are the result of hard work, collaboration, and the unwavering voices of our Texas farmers and the Texas Oyster Mariculture Association.

Harmful algal blooms continue to frustrate livestock and aquaculture producers, posing risks to cattle, broodstock, and water usability. Many current control methods are costly, labor-intensive, and often disruptive to daily operations. We’re exploring a cost-effective strategy to help prevent these blooms before they become a problem. The early results have sparked some great conversations!

This upcoming webinar will present those findings and offer practical tools producers can use in their own operations. While seasoned professionals are absolutely welcome, this session is designed with producers in mind.
