Introducing Nina, our new Informing Families Coordinator. Hello, I am happy to introduce myself and provide background into who I am and what drives me to serve my community. I was born and raised in New Mexico, during my time in University I was part of a practicum working in a refugee camp in Greece. Though it was a short-term assignment, I enjoyed it so much I ended up staying in Greece for 2 years then moved on to Iraq for 7 years where I worked with the UNHCR as a refugee camp conflict mediator and part time interpreter for our military service members on deployment.
Five years ago, I returned to the states choosing Clallam County as my new home. Since the time I’ve moved here, I have had broad experience working as an employment consultant and community inclusion specialist for adults with developmental disabilities. I am also consistently active with our county leadership advocating for more disability inclusive spaces and ADA compliance. I also work as a CPR and First Aid instructor part time, holding my instructor certification through both the Health and Safety Institute and American Red Cross.
My passion is to take my experience, knowledge, and qualifications to build a more inclusive and empowered community for adults with developmental disabilities in Clallam County.
I have experience advocating for ongoing DDA services and waivers. Last June I traveled to Washington D.C. and met with our congressman to discuss ongoing progress for an inclusive future and ongoing services. Specifically requesting an end to sub-minimum wage for adults with developmental disabilities. Legislative advocacy for disability rights and inclusion both local and national is a major passion of mine.

Informing Families is a resource provided by the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council, in partnership with the Developmental Disabilities Administration. The Informing Families Coordinator provides information and resources on community services and disability supports for individuals and families across every stage of life.
