The Veteran Affairs sent me a proposal letter, to reduce my disability compensation by over $1000 a month. This is reportedly happening to other veterans, too. Yet, no news station has mentioned it yet.

Well, I see the home I rented and completely renovated in 2018 to start my Adult Day Health Center is once again up for sale. The original owner gave me a contract stating that if I rented it and transformed it into a commercial residential home that meets criteria for my business, I could have first rights to purchase the home. It was emphasized that the home would be appraised, and I would be able to finance the home for the amount the bank would finance. After my work was completed, the original owner passed away. Her children refused to appraise the home, or give me a price and terms in writing. Instead, they said I had to move out so they could sell the home for cash only, as they were asking several hundred thousand more than local realtors felt it was worth. As you can see in the notes, the original loan from the last sale was 200,000. They wanted me to pay 400,000 and pay cash for whatever was not financed. Afterall, there was a plumbing problem estimated at $10-20,000 to fix, and I could not open my business until the property was safe.
Here is my work, and a few touches I can see from the recent owners, respectively. This was a two-year project, thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor. I was preyed upon, harassed, and forced to vacate so that someone else could buy it. No thanks to the slum lord predators of Port Angeles, because I made their slum of a commercial property into a home and was not compensated a penny for the fraudulent agreement.
I hope whoever buys it, makes good use of it. It meets criteria for an adult day care, and that is desperately needed in this town where veterans are eligible for these services from the VA but there are none available. My nephew built that fence! I bought all materials and did everything else myself. I paid local landscapers with my own money, and spent thousands of dollars on supplies and licensing for the business. It was a really big disappointment, especially as a disabled combat veteran myself.

16 Nov 1776 – Margaret Corbin and her husband, crews one of two cannons in defense of Fort Washington and 600 other defenders. When her husband falls, Margaret takes his place at his cannon and continues firing until she is seriously wounded. She later becomes first woman in U.S. history to receive a pension from Congress for military service.
On November 16, 1776, Corbin dressed as a man and joined her husband in the Battle of Fort Washington on Manhattan Island. There, she helped him load his cannon, and when he was killed, she quickly and heroically took over firing the cannon against the British. Other soldiers commented on “Captain Molly’s” steady aim and sure-shot. Eventually, however, she, too, was hit by enemy fire, which nearly severed her left arm and severely wounded her jaw and left breast. She was unable to use her left arm for the rest of her life. The British eventually won this battle, with Corbin numbered among the prisoners of war who were paroled and released back to the care of Revolutionary hospitals.

Left to support herself alone, Corbin struggled financially. After she recovered, Corbin joined the Invalid Regiment at West Point, where she aided the wounded until she was formerly discharged in 1783. Then, on July 6, 1779, the Continental Congress, in recognition of her brave service, awarded her with a lifelong pension equivalent to half that of male combatants. Congress also gave her a suit of clothes to replace the ones ruined during the conflict.

In 1782, Corbin married a wounded soldier, but he died a year later. Gruff and unfeminine, Corbin made few friends among the women of her time, instead feeling more at home smoking and conversing with other soldiers.

Corbin died near West Point before reaching her fiftieth birthday. In 1926, her remains were moved from an obscure grave along the Hudson River to West Point, where she was buried with full military honors. A plaque at Fort Tryon Park in Manhattan, hails her “as the first woman to take a soldier’s part in the War for Liberty."
