CCSOSAR team extends our deepest condolences to Neil Gehring’s family, extended friends and teammates. Our thoughts are with you ❤️‍🩹

Search and rescue teams recovered the body of Neil Gehring from the northwest slope of Mt. Appleton on Sunday evening. Searchers located Gehring after receiving and analyzing additional cell phone location data. Gehring was transferred to the Clallam County Coroner’s Office at approximately 8 p.m. on September 13. No additional information is available at this time.

Olympic National Park is grateful for all the dedicated search and rescue teams that volunteered to assist with this effort.

The National Park Service is searching for Neil Gehring, 26, who left the Madison Falls Trailhead in Olympic National Park on August 31. According to his backcountry permit, Neil intended to make a cross-country traverse from Boulder Lake to Appleton Pass, returning to the Madison Falls Trailhead on September 1. He was reported overdue at 6:30 a.m. on September 2. Search efforts began immediately after notification. Anyone who was in the area or has information that may assist the search is asked to call the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch Tip Line at 888-653-0009 or email [email protected].

🚨CODE RED: Our community blood supply is at emergency levels.🚨

Clallam County Fire District #3 is hosting a community blood drive on Thursday,

September 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Every donation can help save lives. Summer travel, canceled appointments, increased hospital needs, and upcoming community events have contributed to a critical shortage in the local blood supply.

If you are eligible to donate, please consider scheduling an appointment. You never know when you, a family member, friend, or neighbor may need blood.

Please celebrate safely, look out for one another, and lets help our firefighters by being responsible this 4th of July holiday.

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, Fire District 3 would like to recognize National Wildland Firefighter Day and the incredible men and women who work to protect our communities, forests, and open spaces.

Fireworks may be part of the holiday tradition, but they can also spark fast-moving brush and wildland fires, especially during dry summer conditions. We ask everyone to celebrate responsibly and help keep our community safe.

Before using fireworks:
• Check local laws and burn restrictions
• Never use fireworks in dry grass, brush, or wooded areas
• Keep a hose, bucket of water, or extinguisher nearby
• Soak used fireworks completely before throwing them away
• Never allow children to handle fireworks without close adult supervision
• Consider attending a public fireworks show instead

A single spark can start a wildfire. Please do your part to help prevent fires, protect homes, and support the firefighters who stand ready to respond.
