This week’s exhibit feature is our baby shiner perch!
We’re excited to share that we have two pregnant mothers this year, which means we may soon have even more tiny shiner perch swimming around!
Shiner perch are a common and important part of the Salish Sea ecosystem. They often travel in schools through shallow coastal waters, feeding on small animals like plankton and tiny crustaceans. In turn, they provide an important food source for larger fish, birds, and other marine animals.
These little fish may be small, but they play an important role in the health of our coastal ecosystem!
