Last Day at the Porcupine Labor Day Powwow. The guys had a few visitors stop by and look at the fire gear, but we had one who wanted to throw on the gear and get a pic Jaden, who is now officially known as "that turtle guy".

⚡🔥 WILDLAND FIRE AWARENESS — LIGHTNING HOLDOVERS

Last night’s thunderstorms brought significant lightning activity and heavy rainfall across the region. While the rainfall is welcome, lightning can still result in holdover wildland fires that may not become visible immediately.

A lightning strike can ignite trees, roots, duff, or other fuels and smolder for hours—or even days—before producing visible smoke or open flame. Rainfall can reduce the likelihood of ignition and spread, but it does not completely eliminate the potential for a holdover fire.

As conditions begin to dry, we ask everyone traveling throughout our homelands to remain observant.

If you notice an isolated or unexplained smoke column, please report the suspected fire activity through the appropriate emergency channels.

Stay alert and help keep our communities and homelands safe.

GOOD MORNING — NEEDLES-EVENT FIRE UPDATE

We want to address some concerns this morning regarding the fire and nearby homes.

At this time, there are no homes threatened by the Needles-Event Fire.

Residents may continue to see smoke and occasional visible fire activity. There are a significant number of trees and other heavy fuels still burning and smoldering within the black—(the area the fire has already burned through.)

The steep and rugged terrain is making mop-up especially challenging, as crews work to reach burning trees, hot spots, and remaining fuels throughout the burned area.

Seeing smoke or isolated flames within the black does not necessarily mean the fire is advancing toward homes.

Crews continue working the incident, and we will provide additional updates as conditions change.

The Needles-Event Fire has grown to approximately 4,000 acres.

It has been determined that lightning from this morning’s storm caused the fire.

Strong winds contributed to wind-driven fire behavior and rapid growth throughout the day. Multiple agencies remain on scene, with crews cutting fire lines and conducting back-burning operations. Air resources have also been making drops throughout the afternoon in support of suppression efforts.
