Do you recognize these Hometown Heroes? That’s the parents, Hubert Sr. and wife Gladys Ladner, and their sons and son-in-law, Hubert Jr, Leslie, Dubois Ladner and Brad Ford.
Not many times will you find that much military pride in one family.
Thank you all for serving our country!

Did you remember today is Military Monday?
Today we will recognize two military men who provided Poplarville with medical care for many years, Dr. Stringer and Dr. Powell.

Dr. Willie F. Stringer joined the Navy in 1942. He attended medical school at LSU Medical Center. He attended LSU Medical school, interned at tge Baptist Hospital in New Orleans before becoming part of the staff at the Huey P. Long state hospital in Pineville,
La. After moving to Poplarville, he shared an office with Dr. Stewart at Poplarville Clinic.
He enjoyed going on medical missionary trips to Honduras. He also enjoyed visiting elementary school children to talk to them about being a doctor.
He loved his family and especially the love of his life , his wife Ann.

Dr. Joe Harold Powell was born in Pittsburg, TX in 1916.
His family moved to Lewisville, AR when he was very young, thus calling Lewisville home. After high school, he attended Centenary College in Shreveport before entering the Army in Medical Tech Unit 393rd Infantry. He served all over Europe during WWII and was even at Normandy on the famous D-Day. He did everything from dragging injured soldiers from the front lines to the med station where he operated....taught on the job. He received 2 Bronze Stars for bravery.
Once returning to USA after the war, he attended LSU med school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
Poplarville became his home and lifetime place of practice until he passed away at the age of 70.
His passions were God's word, his patients, helping others, and fishing!

Hello friends, we are starting a new FB feature called “Military Mondays”. We will be initially featuring the service members pictured in banners hanging in our Town Green. If you have memories of the featured members please share with us.
We will begin with Hometown Hero Bobby Cochran.
Bobby was an outstanding athlete in high school, and at MS State. He also excelled in the classroom and was an all around good guy and liked by everyone.
In typical Bobby fashion, his unit in Vietnam was taking on fire, he made sure every one of his men got into the tank safely and as he was getting in he was hit and died. Bobby gave him life making sure togethers were protected.
