Thank you so much for the support and excitement you have shown in the establishment of this new organization!
Some of you may still be wondering "What IS Main Street?"
Main Street Poplarville is a local branch of a much larger initiative. The National Main Street Association was established as a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1980 as a way to address the myriad of issues facing older and historic downtowns during that time. Since then, over 2,000 communities nationwide have made the decision to work together to re-energize their downtowns and revitalize their communities. 80 of those communities are right here in Mississippi!
Working with the Mississippi Main Street Association, we will embrace the "Main Street Approach" to make real waves in Poplarville. This approach consists of 4 points: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. This approach, with the support of our community, will bring transformation.
Over the next few weeks, we will be taking a closer look at each of these four points and what they entail. By creating Main Street Poplarville, we have joined a nationwide network of communities to learn from and grow with. Which part of the Main Street Approach makes you most excited?
