🌱 What's Up Wednesday! 🌱

We're out refreshing the garden and tending to our little orchard! The fruit trees from Prairie House Gardens we planted last year are starting to bud & bloom!

Check out these apple and plum blossoms! 🌸 The plum blossoms smell divine ✨️

For the past few years, Prairie House Gardens in Glasgow MT has been graciously donating fruit trees, flowers, vegetable plants, and various other gardening goodies to us at the Fort Peck Tribal Community Garden. Yesterday we went down and helped them straighten up herb beds and flower displays while witnessing ✨️ the cutest forklift ever ✨️ We also went to pick up their donation of ADA compliant planter beds! They're made of cedar and will be an absolutely beautiful and much needed addition to the garden space! It's been my goal to make our garden as accessible to as many people as we can and this helps us with that mission SO much! We strive to alleviate food insecurity and improve the physical, mental, and nutritional health of our community members across the reservation! Now to get them built and find some dirt to fill them 😆

Thank you again, Prairie House Gardens!

We worked together with the Fort Peck Extension agent Portia to bring this very cool project to life (literally) at the Northside School in Wolf Point! 🥚🐣🐤

Is raising chickens something that you're interested? For meat? For eggs? For pest control? For friends?

Cool note: In the past our garden coordinator would bring her chickens with her to the garden to eat grasshoppers! They would ride to work with her and leave at the end of the day 🐥🦗

We did a quiet soft launch of our new kitchen space at the new Commodities building in Poplar. We're still working out some finer details of how we'll best serve our commodity clients while they wait for their distribution. The recipe we served was Pan de Canela, a cinnamon tea cake. We hope you'll give this recipe a try and tell us what you think!

We weren't as active on social media this year as we have been in the past, but that didn't mean we weren't busy! We hope to make a longer post to catch everyone up on our 2025 accomplishments, and our hopes for 2026. We'd also like to make a new introductory post in the near future to all our new followers to help better explain everything we do!

In the meantime, please enjoy this short video our garden director made. We hope this gives you a glimpse into the rich and varied world of gardening and food sovereignty.
