GREAT NEWS = URGENT NEED

Every July is an exciting but stressful time for students in Uganda. University admission lists are released, and after years of hard work, students have only a few short weeks to raise the funds they need before classes begin in August.

This year is especially significant for us. For the first time in our ministry, 12 students from our education program are enrolled in university courses. It’s an incredible answer to prayer, but it’s also created a very urgent need.

Our Ugandan Student Education Fund is running low, and we need to raise $10,000 to help these students begin the next chapter of their lives. These funds will provide tuition, university fees, housing (hostels), and laptops so they can successfully pursue their studies. Several of these students have also earned opportunities to continue their athletic careers while attending university.

We’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many of these young people for years. Watching them reach this milestone has been an incredible joy, and we don’t want finances to keep them from the opportunities they’ve worked so hard to earn.

In May, UG2 partnered once again with Hope Smiles to provide much-needed dental care through a mobile dental clinic for the children and families we serve. We were encouraged not only by the large number of patients treated, but also by the significant improvement in oral hygiene observed since previous visits. The Hope Smiles team shared that they received a warm welcome and were delighted to see the positive impact of ongoing care and education.

During this outreach, the team provided care for 296 patients, including:
109 simple and moderate cleanings
177 quadrants of deep cleaning
193 extractions
114 fillings

These services help relieve pain, prevent future complications, and promote long-term health for children and adults who often have limited access to dental care.

At the same time, a joint short-term mission team from Liberty Baptist Church in New Albany, Mississippi, and First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, partnered with our staff to lead a four-day holiday student program. Throughout the week, students participated in Vacation Bible School, academic support activities, games, and special events designed to encourage both learning and spiritual growth.

We are especially grateful that two children professed faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior during the week's activities. Seeing children respond to the Gospel while also receiving practical care and encouragement is a powerful reminder of why these partnerships matter. Together, the dental outreach and student program demonstrated Christ's love in a holistic way. By caring for physical needs, investing in education, building relationships, and sharing the hope of the Gospel, we seek to minister to the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

We have also included a short video (in comments) highlighting the outreach. We hope you enjoy seeing some of the smiles, stories, and moments of compassionate care that made this clinic such a blessing to those we serve. Thank you for your prayers and support, which make partnerships and outreaches like this possible. Together, we are helping bring hope, healing, and the love of Christ to our community. Through your partnership, lives are being impacted both now and for eternity.

L to R: Mentor Bashiir, Hope Alive!’s Educational Specialist, Michael, a current Masaka student, Tonny Bwanika, and teacher Matthias from one of our partner schools attended a training focused on recognizing trauma and protecting children. The training, hosted by Teach Beyond Uganda, was highly interactive and approached every topic through a Christian worldview.

The team learned how to better care for children who have experienced trauma and how to nurture safe learning environments. Each of these participants has taken the information back to their spaces and presented the training to their respective colleagues.
