According to the ACLU of Michigan “ systemic inequities disproportionately harm marginalized communities—particularly regarding unequal care, restricted reproductive access, and inadequate medical treatment for incarcerated populations.”
Reflecting on this catastrophic failure of our nation’s healthcare systems. I believe that Health equity isn’t just a policy issue. It is a leadership issue.
When people cannot access fair, respectful, and timely care, the consequences reach far beyond one person. Families are affected. Communities are affected. Futures are affected. That is why speaking up matters.
I believe leadership means refusing to stay quiet when systems fall short.
Why health equity matters
🎤Everyone deserves dignity in care
🎤Bias and neglect have real consequences
🎤Communities suffer when access is unequal
🎤Advocacy can help change outcomes
Too often, people are expected to accept harmful systems as normal. But normal is not the same as right. And silence does not create justice.
Whether we are talking about maternal health, mental health, chronic care, or the broader gaps in who gets seen and who gets heard, the pattern is the same: people deserve better.
That is why I keep using my voice and will continue to use our collective platform.
Not because it is easy. Not because it is comfortable. But because leadership without compassion is incomplete.
A reminder for this week
If something is broken, say so. If someone needs support, show up. If a system is causing harm, do not look away.
Health equity starts with awareness, but it has to move into action.
And action starts with people who care enough to lead differently.
