Hello Friends!
We are coming to you with another cool idea, but first a story!
Last summer, my neighbor Andre was hanging out at my house. I don't remember if it was for an event like the Super Bowl, or if he just dropped by, but sitting in the living-room he said, "You know what [yall] people always have?"
I braced myself for whatever was coming next.
"Family Photos."
And he is not wrong. In so many communities every 16-year-old is gifted a nice camera before their summer trip to Costa Rica. Later they might make a cute little page for their photography business, then give up on it later, but in that process, they take lots of family photos.
Meanwhile, the places where my neighbors would pay for an affordable family photo package-- JC Pennys, Kmart, Sears-- none of those exist anymore, so we see fewer and fewer family photos in communities like ours.
This summer, we want to hook our families up with free (to them) professional (and professional-ish) family photos. We want them to get dressed up, get their hair done, and get photos taken and printed that they can have in their homes for the foreseeable future.
This is where we need your help! I want to share a few things we could use, then you can think about how you can support.
We need:
1) Connections to local photographers who can, for a reduced fee (we are not asking for free work) agree to spend an hour with one of our neighborhood families this summer taking family photos. Please send this to your photorgrapher friends and, if they are interested, have them reach out to Micah 6 Community. The more photographers we have, the more families we can serve!
2) Dollars to send our neighbors to salons and barbershops to get fresh cuts, nails done, etc to look and feel good for their photos. We will need to print, potentially frame, etc. We don't believe in asking people to do their work for free, so we need to pay folks.
3) Folks with beautiful spaces. Maybe your church has a great garden, or your backyard has a beautiful arch. We will absolutely be using public parks and other spaces, but we want to see what else is out there as well!
Thank you for thinking of ways to support our families this way. We look forward to seeing all that our friends can do to make this a reality!
