Slight sprinkles of rain did not prevent 170 cars from attending The Pharoahs 5th Saturday Cruise In, including members of WarJeeps. The big news of the day was the presentation of a $20,000 check from The Pharoahs to a very worthy charity, “K9s For Warriors”, which works every day to support Veterans get a new “leash” on Life. The donation was the culmination of “a years worth of hard work, dedication and commitment to benefitting America’s veterans”.

This was also an event that brought out what may have been the largest collection of American Motors AMX and Javelin muscle cars. 7 big American muscle machines parked next to three American WarJeeps. A feast for the eyeballs. See pics below.

Memorial Day 2026 at RiverFest in Green Cove Springs was a success for WarJeeps and the Camp Blanding Museum. We had a large number of vehicles and two tents of military weapons and uniforms to remember those who gave the fullest measure defending our Country. We even had a guest appearance by a Vietnam-era AH-6 Little Bird helicopter. Please see the pictures below.

The FFC MVPA was in full force and was awarded a prestigious award for the Best Club Display at the charity event for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Our group including a large selection of member vehicles organized by service branch and occpational specialties. Included in the photos below are images of USN aircraft operations vehicles, US Army combat support vehicles, mortar and machine gun fighting positions, HHC HQ operations area with motorcycle couriers with Military Police overwatch, and even a 37 MM anti-tank position. The Camp Blanding Museum display tents included many fine infantry weapons - many thanks to Greg and his presence. Of special note were two individual Best-in-Show awards. Bobby Lentz showed his 1 1/2 ton FORD GTB “Burma Jeep” G-622 bomb ordinance truck for the very first time and won! Eric Leirvik and his 1942 US Army Indian 742 Scout motorcycle won another Best-in-Show award. Our presence was the result of great operational planning by POC Leirvik and display prep work done on Friday afternoon and evening with Eric and Tom Philyaw spending the night onsite with periods of drizzle. A fine testament to the mission. We even had show cars and British imports with 2AMX muscle cars and a beautiful Triumph TR6. Well done to all! Enjoy the pictures to follow

March 29, 1945

US Army 40th Infantry (possibly the 185th RCT) and an M4 Sherman tank move towards the Bago River Bridge on Negros Island, Philippines.

"....... the key initial objective had to be the 650-foot steel truss bridge across the Bago River, the sole span that could support movement of heavy weapons and equipment across the wide river separating Pandan Point from Bacolod. Filipinos reported that the bridge had been mined for demolition. If the Japanese blew it up, the wide river channel would become a significant logistical obstacle and might derail the entire operation.

Sacrificing a naval bombardment in the interest of surprise, the first element of the 185th RCT slipped ashore to secure the bridge about 0500 the morning of 29 March, several hours ahead of the main landing. Led by Lt. Aaron H. Hanson, the reinforced platoon from Company F, 185th Infantry, surprised the Japanese guards and seized the span, holding on for several hours until reinforcements arrived.

The main body of the 185th Infantry landed at 0900 without opposition. Eichelberger thought the Japanese decision not to contest the landing beach had been a mistake, judging that, properly deployed, the Japanese could have decimated the first two American battalions to land. Perhaps more significantly, defense of the beach would have gained the Japanese sufficient time to destroy the Bago River bridge. Because eight more bridges, each prepared for destruction, lay along the division's route from the landing site to Bacolod, Hanson's capture of the first bridge enabled the Americans to advance so rapidly thereafter that they were able to seize each bridge in turn. Bacolod itself was taken the following day, 30 March.

The 160th Infantry came ashore two days after the 185th, and the 503d Regimental Combat Team (Parachute), originally on call for a possible airborne assault, followed by sea. Off-balance and with their defenses ruptured, the Japanese tried to delay the American advance, but the soldiers of the 40th Division simply overwhelmed the delaying forces and continued their attack. By early April the 40th Division had captured most of the coastal plain of northwestern Negros. The Americans then consolidated their forces before moving inland. (ibiblio.org)

WarJeeps supported the annual car show at Destination Church in Arlington yesterday. Robert Fowler, Dan Gianini, Alexander Watkins and Eric Leirvik displayed five vehicles including the Best in Show Winning Entry: the 1942 Indian 741 motorcycle owned by MajorGunny. A nor’easter wind dropped the temps but the crowd was massive. Great event. Congrats to Eric for winning the day.

We were honored to be requested to provide a full vehicle and living history exhibit for the inaugural Veteran Outreach Event at Florida State College Jacksonville. FSCJ Eecutive Director of Veterans Affairs, LTC Meshaw Culyer - Ret., US Army, coordinated a fine event to welcome veterans to FSCJ and to promote FSCJ’s commitment to the local veteran community. Tom Philyaw set up a top-shelf wall tent exhibit of period-correct WW2 infantry field gear. Additionally, we had a new particpant whose father was a DDay veteran of an artillery battalion who fought his way across France and Germany. Harry brought a great collection of his father’s wartime gear to display. Period vehicles were provided by Eric Leirvik( 1941 Slat MB and 1942 Indian cycle, 2 vehicles), Robert Fowler A. Watkins, along with Tom’s ‘43 GPW. An active duty Hummer with Army recruiters rounded out our display area. There was also an FSCJ Basketball game which the FSCJ Manta Rays won. All in all, a fine day in support of a worthy military education and service event. Thanks to all that attended.

A late request on Saturday for a great and deserving event on Sunday was fulfilled for FFC MVPA associate member The Camp Blanding Museum supporting “St Micheal’s Soldiers”. The mission? Deliver Santa and Mrs. Claus to their event to distribute toys to children of Gold Star Families. Camp Blanding Museum has been a long-time associate member of the FFC and we were happy to assist. Two jeeps were dispatched to deliver the Big Guy and his wife to The Thrasher Horne venue at St Johns River State College in Orange Park so that these very deserving children of fallen warriors could celebrate Christmas in a big way Also in attendance was some Rock and Roll Royalty: Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame.
