What happens when a brain tumor diagnosis turns life upside down?

On the Rewired Minds Podcast, BTN Senior Nurse Navigator Kelly Glover joined host Bri Salsman for a real conversation about fear, questions, support, and what it means to help families find their footing after diagnosis.

Kelly shares how BTN helps patients and loved ones sort through complex information, understand options, ask better questions, and feel less alone in the process.

When words are hard to find, compassion matters.

Aphasia is a language disorder that can affect a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, or write. It can happen when areas of the brain involved in language are affected by a brain tumor, treatment, stroke, or other brain injury.

This Aphasia Awareness Month, we’re reminding our community to listen with patience, give people time to respond, and remember that every person deserves to be heard.

Brain tumor symptoms aren't always obvious — and they vary widely depending on where the tumor is located, how large it is, and how quickly it's growing.

Knowing what to look for can make a critical difference.

If you or someone you love is experiencing several of these symptoms — or symptoms that are getting worse over time — talk to a doctor.

The median age of a brain tumor diagnosis is 62 — and risk keeps climbing from there. By age 85+, incidence is nearly 20 times higher than in childhood.

But a brain tumor can happen at any age, and when it does, families are often left navigating one of the most complex diagnoses in medicine with little guidance: appointment after appointment, treatment decisions, insurance hurdles, and a flood of medical terminology — all while trying to stay present for the person they love.

That's where Brain Tumor Network comes in. Our oncology navigators provide free, personalized support to patients and families facing a brain tumor diagnosis, helping make sense of pathology, identifying treatment options and clinical trials, and walking alongside families every step of the way.

May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month. If you or someone you love is facing a brain tumor diagnosis, reach out. We're here. → BrainTumorNetwork.org
