Ponder Volunteer Fire Department

Ponder Volunteer Fire Department Ponder Volunteer Fire Department is a not for profit organization dedicated to providing quality fire and emergency medical services to the community

Ponder Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1937 by residents of the Town of Ponder. The department started with 1 truck and a couple of dedicated members, and has grown to 6 trucks and 19 active members now. We strive through fundraising efforts to provide our members with modern equipment and training to provide the best possible service to the residents and transients in our district. O

ur members are assigned to shifts, which provide our citizens with a quality response, and allows our members to spend some time with their families. We require all members to attend weekly training throughout the year and ask them to give their time to outside training as well. We currently hold one major fundraiser per year. Frontier Days is held annually the first Saturday of June. Events are planned and ran by our members, the Lady VIPS of Ponder and other local residents. Thank you to those that support us both monetarily and with your precious gift of time.

🔥 Member of the Week 🔥

This week, we would like to recognize Firefighter/EMT Timothy Aja for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department.
Timothy joined PVFD in 2020 as a volunteer firefighter and has continually worked to advance his skills and knowledge in the fire service. Through hard work and determination, he earned his Firefighter and EMT certifications and is currently finishing paramedic school, taking the next step in his career and furthering his ability to serve those in need.
In addition to his service with PVFD, Timothy works full-time for the Pilot Point Fire Department, where he recently completed his probationary year. Despite the demands of a full-time fire service career, Timothy continues to dedicate his time to PVFD as a part-time firefighter, demonstrating the same commitment that many of our members show in serving multiple communities.
Timothy's impact on our department extends beyond emergency response. This past fall, he took the lead in developing and conducting PVFD's first Volunteer Training Academy. Through his efforts, new members were provided with valuable training, mentorship, and a strong foundation for success in the fire service. His willingness to invest in the next generation of firefighters has already made a lasting impact on our department.
Whether he's responding to calls, mentoring new members, training alongside his fellow firefighters, or continuing his own education, Timothy consistently exemplifies professionalism, dedication, and a servant's heart.
Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/EMT Timothy Aja as this week's Member of the Week. Thank you, Timothy, for your hard work, leadership, and unwavering commitment to PVFD and the communities you serve. We are proud to have you as part of our team and look forward to seeing all that you accomplish in the years ahead.
🚒👏 Congratulations, Timothy! 👏🚒

Q&A:

When did you first become interested in the fire service, and what inspired you to join PVFD in 2020?
I first became interested in the fire service during my senior year of high school. I always had a passion to serve the community and be a part of something bigger than myself. Ponder was the town that I grew up in, and I wanted to give back to it.

Many people don't realize that firefighters often serve multiple departments. What motivates you to continue working part-time with PVFD while serving full-time elsewhere?
I continue working part-time with PVFD because of my commitment to the community and the department. It’s been rewarding to watch PVFD grow from an all-volunteer department into one with full-time, part-time, and volunteer personnel. Being able to play a small role in that growth while continuing to serve alongside the people who helped shape the department means a lot to me.

What do you enjoy most about being a member of the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department?
What I enjoy most about being a member of the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department is the strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork. It feels like being part of one big family, united by a shared commitment to serving our community.

Thank you for reading, and we'll catch you next time! God Bless Ponder!

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

As firefighters, we understand the weight of answering the call, leaving behind our families, stepping into the unknown, and putting others before ourselves. It’s a responsibility we carry with pride, but also with the understanding that not all who answer that call make it home.

Today, we honor those who gave everything in defense of our freedom. Their courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to something greater than themselves will never be forgotten.

We also remember the families they left behind, the ones who continue to carry their legacy, their strength, and their sacrifice each and every day.

Let this day serve as a reminder of the true cost of freedom and the heroes who paid it.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Ponder Volunteer Fire Department is proud to recognize Junior Firefighter Kaitlyn Luther, who recently received this year’s John Philip Sousa Band Award at Ponder High School.

Introduced in 1955, the John Philip Sousa Band Award is considered the pinnacle of achievement for high school band students. It recognizes superior musicianship, leadership, loyalty, and cooperation, and is awarded annually to one top student for exceptional dedication. It is often considered the “gold standard” for young instrumentalists.

Kaitlyn received this award because of her superior musicianship, leadership, loyalty, and cooperation within the Ponder High School Band program. This accomplishment is even more special because she is the first junior at Ponder High School to receive the award.

Kaitlyn currently serves as a Drum Major and has been an active Junior Firefighter with Ponder Volunteer Fire Department for the past two years. Her commitment to excellence, leadership, and service is evident both at school and within her community.
