Last week, Rotary Treasurer, Sparky Welles, welcomed SLU Softball Head Coach, Trent Partridge, to speak at our meeting. Trent shared information on recruiting, training, and service opportunities for his players. He is optimistic about the upcoming season and is pleased with player commitment. Trent was joined by Lions Athletic Association board member Keith Wittie who lauded the experience of Coach Partridge and encouraged Rotary members to support the team.

“Midnight at the Ranch” was the theme for the 2026 Richard Murphy Hospice Gala held at Chappapeala Park in Hammond on October 3. Rotary was excited to hear all about the festivities from Executive Director Jodee Hoover and board member Beth Richard. We have it on good authority that everyone had a “rootin’ tootin’ good time this year!! 🎉🎉

The Krewe da Cha Chas was in ‘da house with some very lovely samples of decorated bras for the upcoming “Bling a Pair to Save a Pair” fundraiser on October 21, 2026, at Chappapeala Park in Hammond! Krewe da Cha Chas is Breast Cancer Support Group that raises funds to provide grants to fighters and survivors for support that insurance doesn’t provide, like medicine, scans, prosthetics and wigs.
This year’s event will include a silent auction, modeling of the design creations, w**e and wh**ky pulls, music and a live painting by Mandy Mae. Visit the Krewe da Cha Chas web page to get your tickets!

Last week, club member Beth van Mullem invited representatives with Farm Bureau to join us for our lunch meeting. The 2026 Farm Bureau Federation Queen Jean Treas and Nichole Liuzza from Liuzza Family Farms shared with us the importance of agriculture in our communities.
Farm Bureau is a local grassroots advocacy organization that supports agriculture producers and consumer education. They promote initiatives like buying local, agriculture legislation and scholarship programs.

🛏️💙 No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!

What an incredible day of service! Today, members of the Ponchatoula Rotary Club joined forces with fellow Rotarians from multiple clubs across state lines to help build 55 beds for children in need through Sleep in Heavenly Peace!

We are truly blessed to have been part of this amazing event. Every bed built represents more than just a place to sleep—it represents comfort, dignity, and a reminder to a child that their community cares. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, organized, and helped make today possible. This is what Rotary is all about: coming together, serving others, and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

We can’t wait to bring an event like this to the Ponchatoula area and continue making a difference right here in our own community!

Together, we can help ensure that no child has to sleep on the floor. 🙏

🛏️ Tomorrow, We Build More Than Beds — We Build Hope! ❤️

The Ponchatoula Rotary Club is excited to be part of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed build tomorrow! Together, we’re helping ensure that more children in our community have a safe, comfortable place to sleep.

📍 A few reminders for everyone attending:

✅ Volunteer Check-In: Opens at 8:00 a.m.

🧤 Bring work gloves if you have them.

🪑 Bring a lawn chair, as seating will be limited.

💧 Water, lunch, and snacks will be provided!

We can’t wait to roll up our sleeves and make a difference together!

Sometimes the freezer don’t freeze
So the water just weeps
As the ice cream slowly seeps
while the chicken meat creeps
Across the floor as they sweep!

BUT, our Rotary won’t sleep
til our hut is clean and neat
and the repairman housekeeps
on the motor that retreats!

This dedicated crew gatekeeps
while the rest get beauty sleep
Cuz their servant hearts do leaps
When “above self” others reap!
