ATTENTION LOCAL CHAPTER OFFICERS:

Registration is open to all of you for any of the following dates and cities for the 2015 Leadership Training University. We strongly encourage our chapters to support sending at least one of your chapter officers to any one of these sessions, if your Local President cannot attend his/herself. Registration ends on 12/15!

This is FREE for chapter presidents, $25 for chapter officers, and $50 for state officers. So it's dirt cheap! The only other expense would be your transportation.

We have always tried to send our incoming Local President, because the trainings offered at LTU are extremely valuable and applicable to local presidents.

The closest LTU to us geographically is Atlanta, which also happens to be our international offering (meaning we'll have attendees there from at least five other JCI countries...making this a rare opportunity for networking and sharing.

LTU brings together incoming leaders from across the country (and in this case, the world) for an intensive multi-state conference to learn everything they need to know to run their chapters in the coming year.

Session topics include:
•understanding what constitutes a healthy chapter
•keeping chapters legally and financially compliant
•building strong chapter boards
•effective communication with members, potential members, and civic leaders
•understanding the membership database, the website, and other tools and resources

Attendees will meet with National Officers and review plans of action. A highlight of the conference will be the inauguration of chapter officers!

THIS MESSAGE IS INTENDED FOR ANY AND ALL LOUISIANA JAYCEES MEMBERS:

The Louisiana Jaycees would like to ensure that all Jaycees members from our chapters here in Louisiana are following this page, especially current local presidents and incoming local presidents.

If you are seeing this and you belong to one of our chapters in Louisiana, please invite your other members to "LIKE" this page if they haven't already.

Additionally, if you have been elected as the 2015 Local President of your chapter, please leave a COMMENT in the comments section of this post.

We will be creating a "Closed Group" on Facebook to serve as an easy forum for two-way communication to take place throughout the year between both your Louisiana Jaycees State Executive Board and all of our 2015 Local Chapter Presidents, and we want to make sure we get our 2015 LPs all added to it.

We do not want to omit anyone, as it will be here that we will be sharing important information and ideas on a regular basis throughout the upcoming year.

Congratulations to all of our 2015 Local President-elects! We look forward to hearing from all of you soon, and we are definitely looking forward to learning a lot from each other in 2015!

The Louisiana Jaycees extend our condolences and our deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Ricky Broussard. Ricky served as the 53rd President of the New Iberia Jaycees in 1998, and also on the Louisiana Jaycees Board of Directors. Ricky is not only remembered well throughout our Louisiana Jaycees communities, but is also fondly remembered at the national level of our organization. Ricky Broussard will be missed by many.

Greetings Louisiana Jaycees!

Today marks the beginning of the last month of 2014. As I prepare for my year as your 73rd Louisiana Jaycees State President to draw to a close, I would like to take the opportunity now, rather than later, to give you a summary of where our state organization stands at this point in time, and what we will be doing in the next 31 days to ensure that we FINISH STRONG!

Your 2014 LAJCs officers and board of directors have taken great strides this year in terms of propelling the Louisiana Jaycees forward in a positive direction. We have built a succession plan for future state leadership, amended our bylaws to address articles and policies that are no longer relevant or applicable, rebuilt a chapter that had previously fallen below the minimum membership requirements, attended many beneficial trainings, traveled to Baltimore, MD and Washington D.C. for Board of Directors meetings, met with representatives from congressional offices in D.C. to spread awareness about our organization, increased our statewide membership retention rate to 99%, added 71 new members for a net gain of 18 new members (so far), have gotten closer to getting two new extension chapters off the ground, recently hosted a USJC national guest in our state, and have applications in the works to nominate two very worthy individuals from Louisiana for the USJC TOYA (Ten Outstanding Young Americans) award.

While we are proud of these accomplishments thus far, we aren't done yet. We plan to visit a few more chapters in the northern part of our state to assist with their holiday projects, we are currently working to bring back another inactive chapter that wants back in, and we will be introducing an exciting state/chapter fundraiser.

Thank you to all of our Jaycees chapters across the great state of Louisiana for your contributions this year, and for being active young citizens and for continuing to create positive change and sustainable impacts in your local communities.

Not common knowledge to many, Louisiana is one of the states who has had a handful of institutional chapters over the years. We have a couple active prison chapters still operating today.

In 2012, before the prison shut down, I traveled to the Phelps Correctional Center in DeQuincy, LA to train the inmates in the Jaycees chapter there. I can honestly say that was the most well rounded chapter I had ever encounteted in all of my years of being a Jaycee.

These guys had some amazing projects they were doing to support their community, regardless of the restrictions of bars, gates, and concrete walls. They had every officer position filled on their board and they expertly knew their bylaws inside and out...and operated by them without waiver. They were holding debate and public speaking competitions, and they were being recognized on the national level for their charitable contributions, and for the health of their chapter.

Chalk it up to not having many other distractions or avenues for pastimes, or simply credit it to them trying to fast track to an early release based on good behavior...but whatever the case, these guys knew and practiced the vision and mission of the Junior Chamber flawlessly. I was impressed and inspired.

Having experienced it there and with some of the other LA prison chapters, I'll always say that some of the best Jaycees come from an institutional chapter. I think this article helps to support that generalization.

CHAPTER THREE: LIFE INSIDE,William Macumber did not know what a Jaycee was or why one would want to meet with prisoners, particularly a prisoner like himself, convicted twice of a double murder.

A great article about NVP Paul Ottinger's visit to the developing future River Parishes Jaycees chapter coming to Ascension Parish soon!

On Friday night, November 21, the future River Parishes Jaycees had the pleasure of joining Paul Ottinger, the 2014 National Jaycees Vice President for dinner at Galvez Seafood. A member of the Tennessee Jaycees, Paul has been credited with reviving his state membership by spurring tremendous growth…

Greetings Louisiana Jaycees,

All chapters should have received their official notices by now, so as a reminder...

The Louisiana Jaycees will be holding our state's Annual Board Meeting and Election of 2015 Officers TOMORROW Saturday, November 22, 2014 in the Capitol Board Room at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge at 10:00 am. (4914 Constitution Ave)

The meeting notice and agenda was mailed to all Louisiana Jaycees Chapters on October 22nd.

We will be giving a "State of the State" update that will include a financial report, we will be voting on Bylaws changes and we will be electing the 2015 LA Jaycees Executive Board of Directors (President, Administrative VP, Membership VP, and Treasurer)

Most importantly, Louisiana's National Vice President, Paul Ottinger from TN, will be in town this weekend visiting the state, and he will be at our meeting to meet you all and to answer any questions you may have for him about the national USJC organization. Please take advantage of his presence, as it is a great honor to have him visit our state.

So please encourage your members to attend the annual meeting this Saturday. Louisiana has a lot of positive things to report, and much of that is thanks to all of you guys for continuing to live the Jaycee mission through all that you do for your communities!
