The rain held off this morning as several members of the Ponchatoula Kiwanis Club once again joined forces with other local Kiwanis clubs to prepare and serve breakfast for the athletes, sponsors and coaches of the Special Olympics. This year we also had the MS Special Olympics with us so there was over 700 people on campus for the games today. We wish them all a safe and successful day of competition and friendship!

We always want to encourage our young people to read so that’s why our signature project is Books for Kids! Each year we provide every 2nd grade student at Tucker Elementary the opportunity to choose and keep their very own book to encourage reading over the summer months. With the help of grants from Reading is Fundamental and our community support, we have continued this project for many years now providing new books to 1,000s of students!

We were excited to welcome Sue Courtney the founder and director of Courtney Christian School to our weekly meeting. She had Dr. Melanie Monistere, the principal of the high school, and one of their outstanding students with her. At this week's meeting, we welcomed Jeff LeSaicherre, the owner of Fleur De Lis Law and Title. Since we were recognizing some of our senior Key Club members and Jeff was a former PHS Key Club member, we asked him to share about life after high school. He shared great advice on how to handle adversity and make good decisions. We also asked him about his business, and he shared information about it, generating several questions about real estate titles, wills, and trusts. Thank you, Jeff, for taking time out of your busy schedule to share with us this week.
