🐾 Shelter Closed Saturday, June 6 🐾

Northern Oklahoma Humane Society will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, June 6, as our team heads to Herb Fest at Cann Memorial Gardens with adoptable dogs looking for their forever homes.

If you’re attending the festival, be sure to stop by our booth! We’ll have t-shirts, sign-ups for the First National Bank Golf Tournament, and a scavenger hunt for kids. Completed scavenger hunt forms will be entered into a drawing for a $20 gift card to Icon Cinema.

We look forward to seeing you at Herb Fest and will resume normal open hours on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. 💜🐾

Today marks one year since Stetson came into our care.

After spending several months in the shelter, Stetson moved into a foster home in February, where he has been receiving the individualized attention and support he needed to build confidence and become more comfortable navigating life outside the shelter environment.

Today, he had his annual wellness exam and vaccine updates with Dr. Shuey, our contracted veterinarian, who visits the shelter each week to provide medical care for the animals in our program. We're happy to report that Stetson received a clean bill of health.

Annual checkups and routine vaccinations are an important part of keeping pets healthy, and we're grateful for partners like Dr. Shuey who help make that possible for the animals in our care.

After a year in our care and four months in foster, Stetson is still waiting for the family he's been hoping to find. If you know someone looking for a loyal companion, please share this post far and wide...the right home may be just one share away. ❤️

🌿 Don't forget—this weekend! 🌿

The 33rd Annual Ponca City Herb Festival is happening Saturday, June 6, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cann Memorial Gardens, and Northern Oklahoma Humane Society will be there.

Stop by our booth to meet some of our adoptable dogs, shop shelter merchandise, and let the kids participate in our scavenger hunt for a chance to win a gift card to the new Icon Cinemas!

We'll also be collecting donations for our Pet Pantry. If you'd like to bring dry dog or cat food, we'll gladly put it to good use helping local pets and the people who love them.

Come enjoy the festival, stroll through the gardens, and stop by to say hello. We'd love to meet you.

At this point, Timber is starting to feel like that kid who keeps getting picked last for dodgeball, and frankly, we're not sure why.

She's 7 months old now, which means she's right in that sweet spot where she's still goofy and fun but old enough to start settling into a routine. She loves being around people, enjoys playing with other dogs, and has never gotten the memo that strangers are supposed to stay strangers for more than thirty seconds.

Timber will need some continued work on her leash manners and excitement levels, but that's pretty normal puppy stuff. What isn't normal is seeing a friendly, happy girl like this spend another month growing up in a shelter.

We think that smile belongs in family photos instead of kennel pictures.

Sunday was our monthly deep cleaning day at the shelter.

While our team cleans and sanitizes every day, deep cleaning allows us to focus on the details that help keep our animals healthy, our facility in good condition, and our standards of care high.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, we take seriously our responsibility to care for both the animals and the resources entrusted to us. Taking pride in our facility is part of taking pride in our mission.

Thank you to our staff and volunteers who put in the extra effort that day, and to our supporters who donate the supplies that help make days like this possible.

Oakley has two speeds: excited and asleep.

At about 7 months old, she approaches life with the enthusiasm of someone who just found out recess got extended. She loves getting out to explore, enjoys chasing a ball, and has never once considered that walking at a normal pace might be an option.

The good news? She's been working hard on her manners. What used to be a full-blown "feet everywhere" celebration has turned into a puppy who is learning that keeping all four paws on the ground gets her where she wants to go much faster.

She's still got some leash skills to polish up, but that's the kind of thing you'd expect from a young dog who's excited about absolutely everything.

The shelter has helped her get started. Now she just needs someone to help her finish growing up.
