UPDATE: WE DID IT!!!! Between the many donation and pledges, we are able to pay his whole past due electric (which was over 900) and .... drum roll....SAVE THEIR CAR! When I called to tell him tonight he said no one had ever done anything like this for him before. I was quickly to remind him that when God and Ponca City come together.... BEAUTIFUL THINGS HAPPEN!!!! You are ALL ROCK STARS!

**SOS**
I’ve been working closely with a local gentleman who is battling terminal cancer. His condition has been verified (by me) as urgent by the OU Cancer Center in Oklahoma City. This is real, and it’s happening right now. Here they are facing the hardest time in their lives yet having to worry about things we take for granted.

This has all come on so suddenly. He has spent long nights in the hospital, and things progressed so quickly that he didn’t even have time to get disability in place—though he is working on that now.

Right now, his wife is carrying everything. She is the only source of income and also his primary caregiver. My heart aches seeing her so exhausted.

They have already had to let one vehicle go back, so they are now down to one car and it is the only transportation he has to get to his cancer treatment appointments in OKC. The Cancer Center said that he has missed his last two appointments because of finances. This feels just cruel.

Thanks to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Ponca City, OK AND A Path Forward Inc. , we’ve been able to keep the lights on this far... but we are not through this yet. Not even close.

Here’s where things stand:
*Two electric payments of $296 each are still needed to keep the power on.
*That remaining car is at risk, with $1,700 past due. Because we were able to help with the electric they were able to make a car payment. The loan company has shown some flexibility but he is at risk of repossession on May 3rd.

I’ve reached out everywhere I can. I’ve sat in my office overwhelmed, trying to find a way to make this work. And I keep coming back to this:
It’s going to take a community.

If you can give, please message me. I can connect you with ways to pay directly to utility company or help however you feel led. My PayPal is [email protected]

If you can’t give, please share this post.
This family needs a miracle. Maybe we can be it. ❤️

**SOS**
Our community for years has pleaded for a shelter for both men and women (and a permanent warming station for unhoused during frigid temps). Many have worked so hard to make this happen but we need help from our community.

We are needing to raise $1000 for floor repair and secure doors. We are blessed to work with contractors donating their labor (thank you, thank you) but we have to pay for materials. This is where we need your help.

Even $10 or $20 makes a difference!

I wholeheartedly LOVE this town and I absolutely know we can come together to make this dream a reality.

As we quickly approach Peachtree’s winter refresh we are in need of a few donations.

To complete planned projects or furnish rooms, we need:
🔵 Plexiglass sheets
🔵 Framing supplies for the plexiglass sheets
🔵 One dresser
🔵 1-2 recliners
🔵 4 twin size mattresses
🔵 4-5 toilets with wax seals
🔵 Painting supplies such as rollers, pans, brushes
🔵 Opened or unopened cans of paint (in good, usable condition)

Monetary donations are also appreciated! You can drop off or donate here:
https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/renew-and-restore-peachtree-landing-clean-up-week

Staff will be at the shelter (105 W. Hazel) daily starting at 9am on Friday, January 16th and donations can be dropped off then. Alternately, call (580) 762-2873 to arrange drop off or pick up of donations.

We appreciate our community!

🦃 Turkey Day is around the corner, and NERA is normally busy right before the holiday. We've added a few extra hours for our neighbors to shop in the grocery center.

With the government shutdown, many of our neighbors will be impacted as SNAP benefits are not extended in November.
A great way to help is by supporting NERA, a trusted local agency ensuring families in our community have food on their tables.

Donate food if you’re able.
Right now, they need you to volunteer your time if you can. The NERA Team will be busier than ever and could use extra hands and hearts.
Together, we can make sure no one in Ponca City goes hungry.
