⚠️ Elevated Risk for the Spread of Wildfires - Thursday, March 27

US National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly and US National Weather Service New York NY have issued a Special Weather Statement for the elevated risk for the spread of wildfires in New Jersey today.

❗️SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT:
There is an increased risk for rapid fire spread later today across portions of New Jersey. Minimum relative humidity values will be around 20 percent combined with west to northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. High temperatures today will be in the mid to upper 50s. These conditions, along with the continued drying of fine fuels, could support the rapid spread of any fires that ignite, which could quickly become difficult to control.

Today, Friday, March 14th, Truck 50 was requested to respond mutual aid to Wanaque to assist their fire department with a brush fire off of Greenwood Avenue. NJ Forest Fire Service units were also on the scene. We are still in drought conditions and the wildland areas are very dry from lack of rain and windy conditions. Please use caution outdoors with any flame producing devices and remember-no open burning!

On Saturday, June 29, 2024 one delegate and two life members represented PLFD at the New Jersey Exempt Firemen’s Association Convention held at Roxbury High School in Succasunna, NJ. Topics discussed included laws and benefits affecting Exempt Firefighters in our State. NEW restrictive impending regulations promulgated by OSHA could put many volunteer fire departments out of service and escalate costs to municipalities for a paid fire service. Pay close attention to the proposed regulations and Google “National Volunteer Fire Council” for the list of proposed regulations. An Exempt Firefighter is anyone serving 7 years of satisfactory service.
