The 2023 NYSSA/SLEDNY Scholarship Round is now open!

This year, NYSSA/SLEDNY will award two $1,000 scholarships:

Norris and Mary Brusoe NYSSA Scholarship
Joan & Digger Vriessen NYSSA Scholarship

Only members of NYS Snowmobile Clubs will be eligible for these Scholarships.

We had our annual Onondaga County Snowmobile Association Safety Course today, we had 36 students and we gained two new instructors!!! One had to renew and the other is going on her own very soon. Thanks for joining us today. Please volunteer, it helps more than you think. Thank you to everyone that helped today.

Onondaga County Snowmobile Association kickoff dinner is a full house. Food is excellent as always. Pompey Rod and Gun club puts out a great steak dinner!!!! Thank you!!!

Another Onondaga County Snowmobile Association Safety Course in the books. 36 students where registered and passed!!! Had a great day. Now onto the Onondaga County Snowmobile Association Kick off dinner. Steak dinners available 5-8pm. Stop in and support your County Association.

The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the NYS DEC Police yesterday at a crossing in the Town of Sheldon. Deputies/Officers inspected snowmobiles for modified mufflers, registrations and other snowmobile safety concerns. Over 100 snowmobiles went through the checkpoint and several tickets were issued, primarily for the modified exhausts.

Modified mufflers are illegal under the NYS Parks & Recs Law (25.17-1(e)). Additionally, a newly enacted NYS Law last fall (Sleep Act) raised the maximum fine from $250 to $1,000 for loud or modified exhaust systems. The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office and our law enforcement partners have received complaints from landowners who allow the trail system on their property along with their neighbors regarding loud and modified exhausts particularly at night. Without the cooperation and permission from the landowners, the trail system in Wyoming County will be significantly impacted or worst case scenario- shut down. Please keep your snowmobiles with their factory exhaust systems so the trails are enjoyable for all.

We have also had complaints regarding snowmobiles not staying on the marked trails. This is the quickest way to upset a property owner and rescind trail permission. At the end of the day, the trails are on private property and respect for that property must be as maintained as the trail itself.
