BCPS Hurricane Dorian Update

Schools and District Offices to Reopen on Wednesday, September 4

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will reopen on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. All District schools and offices will follow their normal operating schedules. The Broward County School Board Operational Meeting, Special School Board Meeting and Second Public Hearing – Budget, will also take place as scheduled on Wednesday.

The decision to reopen schools is based on the latest information from the Emergency Operation Center on Hurricane Dorian.

“I would like to thank our entire community for its support, and all of our District staff and volunteers for their willingness and readiness to do whatever it takes to serve our families, as we monitored the track of the storm,” said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “At all times, the safety of our students and families is our highest priority. While we are grateful that our community was spared the worst of Hurricane Dorian, our hearts are with those impacted by the storm. We are just beginning to comprehend the massive devastation residents in the Bahamas have endured and are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.”

As the District prepares to reopen, all BCPS employees should report to work at their normal work locations and at their regular start times on Wednesday, unless instructed otherwise by their supervisor.

The District looks forward to welcoming all students and employees back to school on Wednesday, September 4.

Dear Students, Families and Staff,

Broward County Public Schools continues to monitor Hurricane Dorian and work closely with emergency and safety officials. Although the hurricane’s projected path remains uncertain, families and employees are encouraged to prepare.

At this time:

All District schools and departments will operate on normal schedules on Thursday, August 29, and Friday, August 30, 2019.
All after school activities will continue as scheduled on Thursday, August 29, and Friday August 30.
All student activities, including athletic games, practices and clubs are cancelled on Saturday, August 31 – Monday, September 2.
BCPS professional development activities are cancelled on Saturday, August 31 – Monday, September 2.
All District schools and departments are closed on Monday, September 2, in honor of the Labor Day holiday.

Our top priority is to ensure the safety of our students, staff and community. BCPS encourages families and staff to:

Check the National Hurricane Center website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov
The District will continue to provide information and updates via a variety of communication channels, including the District website (browardschools.com), robocalls, social media (Twitter and on Facebook facebook.com/browardschools), the free BCPS mobile app, BECON-TV and local media. The District will also update its Information Hotline at 754-321-0321.

In case you haven’t replied, here are the upcoming events we are looking for help with: Volunteers needed daily for Fall Fest ticket sales from 10/23-10/31 from 9:15-10. We have a few events we need volunteers for: Picture Day- to assist Mrs. Clark in the Media Center October 8 8:00-12:00 or 12:00-3:00 Concessions- We will be selling drinks and snacks daily 3:30-4:00. This is a regular commitment. If you have a specific day of the week that you can help with this, please let me know. Also, if you cannot commit regularly, but would be willing to be on the substitute list for this, please let me know also. Thanks for volunteering! We are looking for parent volunteers to help with the Fall Dance. We need people to sell tickets in the front office on Thursday 9/13 and Friday 9/14 from 9:15-10. Volunteers are also needed the for the dance itself, on Tuesday 9/18 from 1:00-4:00. Please email Mindy at [email protected] if you can help. From PBMS Administration: Greetings Pompano Beach Families, I would like to remind you that all students entering the 7th grade must have their shot records updated. The State of Florida requires all 7th grade students to have their T-Dap immunization before entering the 7th grade. Please bring the updated immunization form from your doctor to the school this Friday when you pick up your schedule. We can't give you a 7th grade schedule without an updated immunization form .
