🎙️🤝 Strengthening communities to care for Mother Earth.

We’re excited to announce a new collaboration between Radio Indígena and Sachamama to share climate information that is clear, accessible, and rooted in the realities of Indigenous and farmworker communities across California’s Central Coast.

Through a series of informational capsules, we'll help bring useful climate knowledge and resources to the people who need it most, supporting preparedness, awareness, and resilience in the face of a changing climate.

We believe that building resilience also means making sure communities have access to trustworthy information that speaks to their everyday lives and experiences.

🌎 Because preparation starts with information.

🥵 We often underestimate extreme heat.

We go to the park, work out, run around with the kids, or spend time outside without realizing how quickly high temperatures can affect the way our bodies function.

As dehydration starts to set in, our internal body temperature can rise, and symptoms may appear that need attention before they become more serious.

Madison Torres, certified meteorologist and climate communicator, reminds us why understanding the risks of extreme heat is key to protecting our health and our communities.

Because being prepared starts with recognizing when heat stops being uncomfortable and becomes a real risk.

🥵 Heard you're only supposed to wear white in extreme heat?

Yeah, white reflects sunlight. But if the fabric is tight and doesn’t let air move through, you can still end up feeling hotter than you expected.

💡 :
It’s not just about the color, airflow matters too.

Loose clothes made from natural fabrics like cotton or linen help heat escape and make it easier for your body to cool down.

Sometimes a loose dark outfit can actually feel way more comfortable than a tight white t-shirt.

Extreme heat is already changing everyday life more than most people realize.

No necesariamente.

🥵 Extreme heat isn’t just making summers feel longer.

It’s changing how people work, sleep, move through their cities, and protect their families.

As temperatures continue to rise, more communities across the U.S. are facing serious health risks tied to heat, especially outdoor workers, older adults, children, and families living in urban areas with fewer resources to stay cool.

In this Huella Zero webinar, we’ll unpack how extreme heat is becoming a public health challenge and why these conversations need clearer, more human-centered storytelling.

🎙 Featuring:

Tais Gadea Lara: Journalist specializing in climate communication.

Damián Markov: Pediatrician specializing in Climate Medicine and Environmental Health, and Associate Faculty member of the Climate & Health Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

🧠 We’ll talk about:

✅ The health impacts of extreme heat
✅ How heat disproportionately affects Latino communities
✅ Tools for communicating these stories with clarity and responsibility

🌳 More trees. More shade. More green spaces. These aren’t just nice things to have. They’re part of how communities stay safer in extreme heat.

As temperatures continue to rise, the places where we live, work, and spend time matter more than ever. And creating healthier, cooler neighborhoods starts with making sure community voices are part of the conversation.

In this clip from , meteorologist Madison Torres reminds us that meaningful change doesn’t happen on its own. Communities have the power to advocate for the parks, green spaces, and investments that help protect families from extreme heat.

Because adapting to a hotter future is also about building stronger communities.
