This Green Heron has apparently decided that Wahoo Bay is his personal fishing spot. No rod, no reel, just patience, precision, and a pretty impressive fishing strategy!

While fishing isn't permitted at Wahoo Bay, we'll make an exception for our feathered friend. After all, he's just doing what comes naturally! 🌿

🤿 Open Snorkel CANCELLED

Due to the ongoing construction at Roy L. Rogers Family Park, the City of Pompano Beach monthly Open Snorkel events at Wahoo Bay are temporarily cancelled until further notice.

🌊 Wahoo Bay remains OPEN daily from 10 AM–4 PM!

Visitors can still come out and experience Wahoo Bay during regular operating hours while construction continues.

We appreciate your understanding and will share updates when the City’s monthly Open Snorkel events are able to resume!

🚧 What’s Happening at Roy L. Rogers Family Park?

You may have noticed construction underway at Roy L. Rogers Family Park, home of Wahoo Bay. This project is all about making the waterfront stronger and more resilient for the future. 🌊

As sea levels rise, waterfront areas in South Florida face increased impacts from high tides, storm surge, saltwater, and coastal flooding. The improvements at Roy L. Rogers Family Park are designed to help protect the park and its waterfront infrastructure from these changing conditions.

The project includes raising and strengthening the seawall, elevating the waterfront promenade, rebuilding fishing piers and docks, and improving utilities and lighting along the waterfront.

🌊 What about Wahoo Bay?

Wahoo Bay is not being harmed or disturbed by this construction. While Wahoo Bay and its SEAHIVE™ structures are located directly along the seawall, all construction work will be performed from land. The work has been planned so the underwater habitat and SEAHIVEs can remain protected throughout construction.

During Phase 2 of construction, land access to Wahoo Bay will be temporarily unavailable while work is completed in this area. However, Wahoo Bay will remain accessible from the water side during this phase.

This project isn’t about expanding or redeveloping the park. It’s about protecting what’s already here and preparing it for the future.

💙 These improvements will help Roy L. Rogers Family Park and Wahoo Bay better withstand future coastal conditions while preserving this special place for recreation, education, and marine life for years to come.

Last week, Wahoo Bay welcomed the STEM & Computer Science Curriculum Team from Broward County Public Schools.🌊🔬

The visit gave the team an opportunity to experience Wahoo Bay firsthand and explore how our educational programs can support hands-on STEM learning, connect students with marine science, and bring real-world environmental education into the classroom.

From exploring our unique marine environment to learning how technology and science come together at Wahoo Bay, we’re excited about the possibilities for inspiring the next generation of scientists, researchers, and ocean advocates. 🐠💙

🔬 Research in progress. Please leave the technology alone.

The underwater cameras and sensors at Wahoo Bay help researchers, students and community scientists study our coastal environment, and bring underwater discoveries to people beyond the shoreline.

Even a small adjustment can have a big impact. Moving a camera, pulling a cable or handling a sensor can interrupt monitoring, affect data quality and lead to costly repairs. Those disruptions affect research and learning opportunities supported by our community.

🚫 Do not touch, reposition, unplug or attempt to repair equipment.
↔️ Give cameras, sensors, cables and their supports plenty of space.
📣 If something looks damaged or out of place, notify park staff. Please leave it for authorized personnel to handle.

Breaking the rules has consequences. Damaging equipment can disrupt ongoing research and divert resources from education and conservation. Vandalism may also result in criminal charges and fines under Florida law.

These rules protect a shared community investment, and the marine life we are working to understand.

Wahoo Bay is a marine education park and living laboratory, and every visitor plays a role in keeping it healthy!

✅ DO:
• Observe marine life and give wildlife space.
• Keep your hands, feet and fins clear of the SEAHIVE® structures.
• Follow posted signs, entry requirements and staff directions.
• Dispose of trash properly.
• Take photos, make discoveries and share what you learn!

🚫 DON’T:
• Touch, collect, feed or harass marine life.
• Remove plants or animals.
• Stand, climb or walk on the SEAHIVE® structures.
• Climb over fences or railings to enter the water.
• Fish or bring boats into the designated conservation area.
• Touch, move or interfere with cameras, sensors or other research equipment.

💙 Leave the wildlife, habitat and technology as you found them so others can experience the same wonder.
