Pompano Beach Garden Club Board Member and Speaker Chair Allan Villeneuve passed away on February 5, 2026. Our club planted a tree in his honor on May 13th at 2290 NE 5th Ave, next to Pompano Beach Airpark, on the east side of 5th Avenue, south of Copens Road. There were two benches there and no shade. The City planted an Oak tree and a small Tabebuia for us, so Pompano residents can now sit in their shade.

Happy Arbor Day! Plant a tree!

This happened today at our January meeting thanks to Susan Crabtree who finds our wonderful speakers every month.

Amy Rielly, Botanical Curator at Flamingo Gardens, is a master gardener and the Butterfly Lady for the garden. She spearheaded the effort to create a Butterfly Conservatory allowing engaging, fun, and interactive opportunities to learn about these key players in our ecosystem and the inseparable connection between their survival and our own.

She organized the Eco-teers, a Flamingo Gardens volunteer outreach group that supports habitat protection, coastal resilience, and environmental projects in Broward County. They also provide climate change and environmental education to residents and visitors.

She discussed the butterflies and the Butterfly Conservatory. Housed in a screened pavilion and furnished with native nectar and host plants, the exhibit provides the perfect environment for Florida native butterflies to thrive at all stages of their life cycle while providing visitors an opportunity to discover more about these unique pollinators and their native habitat.

Our members were very interested and we are sure to plan a field trip there soon. 🐛🦋
