Café con Libros Press

Café con Libros Press A nonprofit bookstore and community space that nurtures cultural expression in all its forms.
(1)

Twenty years ago, with youthful and unfettered optimism two Latinas opened up a Cafe con Libros Bookstore in downtown Pomona. A close friend had asked, “If you could open a business what would it be?” Both women were in the beginning years of their careers as educators and knew exactly, despite no previous entrepreneurial experience, that opening a bookstore would be the dream. The focus of th

e bookstore reflected their experiences as women of color, as first generation college grads, and as immigrant advocates. It became a bookstore that featured books reflecting the multicultural community Southern California. This was the dream, this was the service they wanted to bring to their community: a bookstore which celebrated the stories and traditions of people of color. Although the bookstore closed after several years, the mission of these educators remains the same. Presently, the ladies are more experienced and have gained the wisdom that only the trials of life can bring. These dreamers, Adi and Pati, plus a core group of supporters are bringing Cafe con Libros Press back to Pomona. The new CCL will be a non-profit organization determined to provide a space that creates community, that nurtures creativity, and literacy in all its forms.

June Book Recommendations Are Here!

Looking for your next five-star read? This month we’re highlighting stories from Mexican American authors that challenge, haunt, inspire, and stay with you long after the final page.

Fiction Pick: Chicano Frankenstein / Frankenstein Chicano by Daniel A. Olivas
A sharp, fast-paced, and thought-provoking reimagining of a classic story that blends satire, politics, and Chicano identity. This title is available in both English & Spanish.

Mystery Thriller Pick: The Enemy Sleeps by David A. Romero
A gritty, atmospheric neo-noir with supernatural undertones that explores the shadows lurking beneath everyday life.

Romance Pick: Beyond the Grace of God by Natalie Sierra
An erotic, haunting LA gothic tale of ancient vampires, impossible love, and the devil himself. Dreamlike, romantic, and deliciously dark.

Whether you’re in the mood for romance, literary fiction, horror, mystery, or something that defies categories altogether, these books deliver unforgettable stories and powerful emotional punches.

Better yet, you’ll have a chance to meet Daniel A. Olivas, David A. Romero, and Natalie Sierra during our Mexicans in Horror event on June 7 at Café Con Libros Press!

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo today and every day by picking up books by and about our people. We are more than tacos and Frida Kahlo. We are poetry, history, mythology; creators of fiction, romance, and horror. We are veteranas leaning from lowrider windows, taking up space where others say we don’t belong, and fighting for justice and equality every single day.
