Here are some pictures of the damage to the boarding homes in and near Asni that are operated by Education For All. These are the homes where The Giving Pool has focused its efforts. We will help with rebuilding and also emergency relief for families in the area.

UPDATE: Many have inquired, and I am pleased to report that many of my friends in Morocco are safe. The epicenter was near Asni where The Giving Pool helps to supply water filters to the girls at Education For All. Latifa, one of the house mothers had messaged to say that she is okay and earlier I reported that the girls were safe as well. Actually, the girls were on holiday and most have not yet been contacted. The boarding homes have significant damage. The Giving Pool will be helping any way we can in the coming months.
Yet another reminder that life is precious.

A wonderful day floating and fishing the North Fork of the Flathead with my dear friend Opal and her parents. A huge thank you to Stephen Smith of HydroLogistics Montana for taking us in your adaptable drift boats. Check out his non-profit organization and please feel free to share this post. Steve is making a huge difference in the lives of differently abled people around the state. Access for all to our pristine wilderness cannot be underestimated. So grateful, Steve.

This is How it Started...

I’m Shellene Cleverdon.

The idea for this charitable project began as a conversation between Hassan, a Moroccan tour guide and me while we were on the road from the Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech. He had noted my filter water bottle that I had brought and said that he would like one. He uses many purchased bottles of water per day, as do most of the people in Morocco. Even most city water is not pure and clean. We decided that all of the guides for his tour company should have filter water bottles to be a good example for the people on their trips.

But, Hassan said, “The real need is with the people who live here, especially those near the desert. Many can’t afford to buy water. They are forced to drink unsafe water.” So, began the idea to give filters to the people of Morocco. My One Thing (the guiding purpose of my life) is to “foster the growth and development of children.” Focusing on providing clean water to families is consistent with that vision.

I made several trips to Morocco taking as many water filters as I could. Hassan gave the filters to those in need as he guided his trips throughout the country. It has been a small project, to say the least, but I remind myself that every bottle or family-sized water filter makes a huge difference in the lives of the recipient. I have been happy to do this with my own money.
