This week, my heart keeps returning to one simple word: Memories.
Memories are the quiet treasures we carry long after moments have passed. They become the echoes of laughter around tables, the sound of a familiar voice, the warmth of a hug we would give anything to feel one more time. They are stitched into our hearts like threads in a well-loved quilt, holding together pieces of joy, love, sacrifice, and even grief.
As members of the American Legion Auxiliary, we know deeply what it means to remember. We honor lives lived in service, friends who stood beside us in mission, mentors who guided us, and loved ones whose chairs now sit empty. There are so many we wish were still here, yet their impact remains alive in the stories we tell, the traditions we continue, and the love they planted in us.
Sometimes memories bring smiles. Sometimes they bring tears. Often, they bring both at the same time. But what a blessing it is to have known people so meaningful that their absence still speaks loudly in our hearts.
When the days feel heavy, lean into those memories. Speak their names. Share their stories. Pull out the photographs. Laugh at the funny moments. Pass down the lessons they taught you. In doing so, we keep their light glowing in a world that still needs it.
Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us there is “a time to weep and a time to laugh… a time to mourn and a time to dance.” Life gives us all of those seasons. Memories help carry us through each one.
Today, may we hold close the beautiful gift of remembrance and thank God for every soul who helped shape our journey. Though they may no longer walk beside us physically, love leaves footprints that time can never erase.
Keep serving. Keep loving. Keep remembering.
With faith and gratitude,
