Yesterday evening I attended my last official event as your Delegate. During my time in the legislature, it has been my privilege to advocate on behalf of Mason and Putnam Counties. The 85th legislature made tremendous steps forward in making West Virginia a wonderful place to start and raise a family. A place where we no longer accept that our children will have to leave our state in order to have a successful life. I am incredibly proud of this fact.
In all corners of the state, we have new industries flourishing our state, industry that is a direct building result of policies we pioneered. West Virginia now has a 21st Century Economy. A diverse economy that is not only based on our heritage but based on our children's future. Aerospace in Jackson County, Aeronautics and Aviation in Marion, Kanawha, and Cabell counties, Home goods, and industrial processes in Jefferson County, and my personal favorite Manufacturing in Mason County.
During this time we also passed monumental legislation in education, expanding personal freedoms, pay raises for teachers, police, and state employees, courts, and even managed to keep a few of our state-run hospitals open.
For the 86th Legislature, I wish you the very best of luck in your endeavors. I hope you have the wisdom and courage not to place personal biases and misconceptions and DC politics above the very best interests of our beautiful state and your new constituents. Until next time. Fair winds and following seas.
Thank all of you for all the great memories and friendships.
Semper Fidelis
