Our joint project with the Point Lookout Park Project, the Barrier Island Food Relief program, continued this week. We kept our local restaurants busy by donating 200+ meals to the food insecure and to our at-risk community members. To date, the project has raised close to $23,000. Thank you to all who have supported this effort. Thanks as always to Frank Ryan, Laura Shockley and Laura's Point Lookout Yoga & Wellness volunteers who keep moving this effort forward.

According to recent research, wood chips were the best option for the surfacing of our new playground.

The North Shore School district on Long Island is removing all of its rubber mulch playgrounds by the fall, and replacing them with wood chips.

Bouncing back from Hurricane Sandy. Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino, Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney, Councilman Anthony D'Esposito, Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad, County Legislator Denise Ford and Pt. Lookout Civic Assoc. Pres. Matthew Brennan join with families to unveil the new community playground. The play structures were built through a partnership between the town, county and the community. Children love the equipment that replaces the Sandy-slammed playground.
