Spotlight:
What does Scouting mean to you?
Scouting is something that is very dear to me. I joined Scouts knowing that it was something completely out of my comfort zone, but I grew a deep love for it. I met countless friends while also learning a great deal about myself. In addition, it helped me thrive as a community member, a leader, and most importantly, as an individual.
What is the best Scouting memory you have?
Ironically, one of my favorite memories in scouting is when my troop went to a high ropes course. I've always struggled with a fear of heights, but I had to go on the trip to complete my camping nights. Although I was terrified the whole time, my troop was there for me. They supported me as I managed my way through the course despite the tremendous anxiety. Their encouragement helped turn my fear into courage and reminded me that we all want to see each other succeed.
What was your most favorite Merit Badge and why?
Although I loved many merit badges, my favorite was Photography. I love photography because it captures the beauty of nature, something I got to do a lot of while completing the badge. It was great to practice something I am passionate about.
What are your future plans?
In the future, I am hoping to work in Arts Research, studying how the arts affect the mind, body, and our culture. I am currently a freshman pursuing a dual degree in Jazz Vocal Studies and Brain and Culture Development, but I intend to pursue a doctorate in Ethnomusicology while continuing to perform and create music as often as I can.
What is your advice to other Scouts looking to earn their Eagle Scout?
Be persistent. Don't give up even when it feels challenging. Keep pushing yourself. You've got this!
