From a reliable source…
Tobyhanna township supervisors have decided to deactivate its long-standing fire company of 92 years. Recently the township posted a notice that station TTVFC is no longer providing service to the township voluntarily. This is not completely true. The township enacted a fire department ordinance written by the supervisors, and upon enacting that ordinance TTVFC would become delinquent according to how that ordinance is written. In fact there is not a fire company within Monroe County that would meet the requirements of that ordinance. Prior to passing the ordinance TTVFC sent a letter stating if the ordinance was passed in its current form with out input from the fire companies that they would no longer be the primary service provider to the township. TTVFC offered to stay as an available secondary unit to be available upon request for service while continuing to work with supervisors on the ordinance without financial backing from the township during this time. The supervisors did not discuss any recommendations from the fire company about the ordinance, the supervisors discussed the ordinance in the public meeting and passed it. The decision was made by the township supervisors to deactivate TTVFC completely, not just as a primary service provider. The members of TTVFC, who are all township residents want to negotiate with township supervisors and come to an agreement on the ordinance in order to serve the township as primary provider of fire protection services as it has for the past 92 years. The members of TTVFC want to be able to volunteer their time and skills to our property owners, guests, visitors, and neighbors. Please show your support for your local fire company, they have always been there for us when we needed them, now it’s time for you to be there for them. Please let the supervisors know that this is a decision putting us all at risk.
