Last week, Idaho Honor Flight made its first trip to Washington D.C. before arriving back in Pocatello.

There are some thank-yous that are difficult to fit into a single post.

As we look back on Idaho Honor Flight Mission #1, we want to recognize the organization that helped make our inaugural flight possible: Anheuser-Busch.

When Idaho Honor Flight was still a new organization working to turn an idea into reality, Anheuser-Busch believed in our mission. They didn’t simply support an established program with years of flights behind it. They chose to stand behind our very first one. That belief mattered.

Their sponsorship helped us take 49 veterans on our inaugural Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., giving them the opportunity to visit the memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice—at no cost to our veterans.

Their support went beyond the flight. Anheuser-Busch welcomed our Idaho Honor Flight family in Washington and sponsored a special dinner honoring our veterans, giving us time to gather, reflect, recognize those who made this mission possible and, most importantly, celebrate the veterans we traveled across the country to honor.

Because of Anheuser-Busch’s support, an idea became an airplane filled with veterans. It became visits to memorials. Stories shared between generations. Laughter, reflection, hugs and more than a few tears.

It became 49 veterans surrounded by people determined to make sure they knew one thing: Their service has not been forgotten.

Mission #1 will always hold a special place in Idaho Honor Flight history. There will be more missions, more veterans and many more memories—but there will only ever be one inaugural flight. Anheuser-Busch will forever be part of that story.

Lee Gilhyun from the Korean Consulate presented Jack Sheffer the Ambassador for Peace Medal. Jack served on the Korean Peninsula in 1950-1951 and is our flights oldest veteran. We are so thankful we were able to be a small part of this presentation.

Day Two 🇺🇸

Our third stop of the day was the United States Capitol for a group photo!

A pretty incredible backdrop for the veterans, guardians, and volunteers making history together on the inaugural Idaho Honor Flight.

Day Two 🇺🇸

Our second stop of the day was the United States Navy Memorial and museum.

For our Navy veterans, this stop was especially meaningful. A chance to walk through the history of the branch they served in, see the stories and traditions of those who served alongside them, and be recognized for their own place in that history.

There is something pretty incredible about watching our veterans experience these memorials in person, especially knowing this is the very first Idaho Honor Flight.

We still have a lot of day ahead of us, and a lot more memories to make. 🇺🇸⚓️

Day Two 🇺🇸

Our first stop of the day was the Air Force Memorial.

For our Air Force veterans, this stop was especially meaningful—a chance to reflect on the history of the branch they served in, honor the airmen who came before them, and see their own service recognized among the legacy of the United States Air Force.

There is something pretty incredible about watching our veterans experience these memorials in person, especially knowing this is the very first Idaho Honor Flight.
