For many ALICE households, inflation isn’t about cutting back on luxuries, it’s about whether they can afford essentials like housing, food, transportation, child care, and health care.

As household budgets get stretched even further by rising costs, the impact on already vulnerable families is real and immediate.

Want to understand how inflation is affecting working families in our community and what the data means for Southeastern Idaho?

Today we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress.

Juneteenth is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of opportunity, equity, and community. By learning from our history and investing in one another, we can help build a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.

As we honor this day, we celebrate the individuals and communities whose perseverance continues to inspire positive change.

Everyday moments can help children build important learning skills. 🍎

Try counting in groups of 10 with your child while preparing a snack, shopping for groceries, or spending time outdoors. Simple activities like counting help strengthen early math skills while creating opportunities to learn together.

Through Read Talk Play, families can turn everyday routines into meaningful learning experiences that support kindergarten readiness. 💙

We're excited to welcome some of the organizations joining the Portneuf Valley Childcare & Pre-K Fair! 💙

Come explore local childcare and early learning options, meet passionate educators, and discover programs that help young children learn, grow, and thrive, including:

• Pocatello Valley Montessori School
• Biggie and Smalls Learning Center
• Holy Spirit Catholic School, Idaho
• Branch Academy
• The Nurture Nest, LLC
• Tunki Learning Center

These providers play a vital role in nurturing early learning, fostering curiosity and confidence, and helping children build a strong foundation for lifelong success. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to come meet these providers in person, learn about their programs, ask questions, and find the best fit for their family's needs.

Join us at the Portneuf Valley Childcare & Preschool Fair on Saturday, June 27, to connect with local programs, ask questions, and discover the opportunities that can help your young child thrive.

In 2024, the Household Survival Budget for a family of four in Idaho was $79,488.

Two full-time workers in common occupations, a cook and a teller, earned a combined $75,839. That’s not enough to cover the basics.

When wages fall short of the cost of living, financial hardship is the reality for many working families. These numbers represent real people facing difficult choices every day, between housing, food, transportation, child care, and health care.
