We have a small but important operational problem at the Heart in the Garden stand, and we're looking for ideas and community help.
The inside of the stand currently has a dirt floor. This has been an ongoing issue, particularly around our refrigerator. Dirt and dust are getting into the refrigerator compressor, and we have already had the refrigerator stop working and require a repair.
The refrigerator has been repaired, but we have been advised that the problem is likely to continue—and potentially happen more frequently—if we don't find a way to reduce the amount of dirt and dust reaching the compressor.
So we need to find a practical way to address the flooring or otherwise control the dust.
The challenge is that we currently have $0 available for this project.
We have thought of a few possibilities:
• Indoor/outdoor rug or other floor covering
• Artificial turf
• Rubber mats
• Donated or surplus flooring materials
• Another solution we may not have considered
We're not necessarily looking for someone to simply buy us flooring. We're looking for ideas, materials, resources, or connections that could help us solve this problem at little or no cost.
If you have experience with flooring, refrigeration, construction, remodeling, landscaping, or materials that might work in this type of environment, we would genuinely appreciate your thoughts.
And if you know of a business, contractor, organization, or individual who might have suitable leftover, surplus, or donated material, we'd be grateful for an introduction.
Our goal is simple: protect the refrigerator, prevent repeated equipment failures, and keep the Heart in the Garden stand operating for the people who rely on it.
Sometimes nonprofit problems aren't huge projects—they're simply a matter of finding the right solution and the right people willing to help us make it happen.
