Sometimes the missing piece isn't the device it's the connection.

Michael Wornameh had a laptop but no way to get online to complete his assignments, without a mobile phone to use as a hotspot. Through SREF's Daakye Kɛseɛ ("A Bright Future") initiative, our Operations Manager held a Career Mentorship session with Michael at Kasoa Adam Nana on leveraging technology and connectivity for his education followed by the presentation of a mobile phone at his residence.

Michael shared: This will make it so much easier to get online and complete my schoolwork,"

One connection, paired with ongoing mentorship, is helping build a self-reliant future that's Daakye Kɛseɛ in action.

LAPTOP DONATION 💻PRINCE ODAME

A laptop is never just a laptop it's a pathway to self-reliance.
Prince Odame, a student at Accra International School of Arts & Design, struggled to complete assignments without access to one. Through SREF's Daakye Kɛseɛ ("A Bright Future") initiative, our Operations Manager held a Career Mentorship session with Prince at Kasoa Adam Nana, coaching him on using technology for academic growth before presenting him with a laptop to carry that growth forward.
Prince said: This will help me overcome the challenges I've faced and improve my academic performance.

At SREF, every donation comes paired with one-on-one mentoring because building self-reliance in Ghana takes more than equipment. It takes people invested in people.

Yaw brings over a decade of non-profit financial leadership grant compliance, donor reporting, and financial stewardship from his work with Plan International, Ghana Hubs Network, and International Justice Mission. He's managed financial oversight for programs funded by the World Bank, UNICEF, GIZ, Global Affairs Canada, and the U.S. Department of State, among others.

A Chartered Accountant (ICAG) and Chartered Tax Professional (CITG) with a master's in Accounting & Finance, Yaw also chairs the Audit Committee of the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Center.

We're excited for the expertise and integrity he brings as SREF continues to grow across the U.S., Ghana, and Tanzania. Welcome, Yaw!

Today, we are reminded that hope can be restored when a community chooses compassion over judgment.

Meet Emmanuel Hammond 🥰, a beneficiary of the Self Reliance Empowerment Foundation (SREF) Godparent Program and Direct Engagement Model.

After spending five years in prison, Emmanuel faced the difficult reality of rebuilding his life with little to no access to food, clothing, or stable shelter. Through SREF's intervention, his immediate needs have been met, giving him a renewed sense of dignity and hope.

On 18th July 2026, our Co-Founder and Operations Manager, David Adzadu, visited Emmanuel to assess his wellbeing and discuss his future aspirations. During the visit, Emmanuel shared his dream of becoming an Auto Electrician 🚗⚡a career that would allow him to build a sustainable future and become self-reliant.

Arrangements are currently underway to enroll him in a technical institution where he can receive professional training in auto electricals.

At SREF, we believe that a person's past should never define their future. Everyone deserves a second chance, and with the right support, lives can be transformed.

Together, we are not just changing lives we are restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity.
