We’re starting to build the team around a pretty unique opportunity, and I figured this was probably the best place to find some of the people we need.

The easiest way I can describe the idea is this:

It’s a bridge.

The vision is a family- and youth-focused recovery and stabilization campus where people can get the level of help they actually need and, just as importantly, have somewhere to go from there.

That can include recovery and peer support, substance-use treatment, withdrawal management when appropriate, youth services, family stabilization, behavioral-health support, life skills, education, employment, housing connections and help getting established back in the community.

Not everybody walking through the door is going to be in crisis.

Some may need treatment. Some may need a structured place to stabilize. A young person may need support getting through a difficult transition. A parent may need help rebuilding without completely separating their recovery from their family. Someone else may simply need a good next step and somebody willing to help them get there.

And 99+1 doesn't need to provide every one of those services itself.

That's actually a big part of this.

There are already people and organizations in Southern Oregon doing really good work. The goal is to work with them, refer to them, bring them into the conversation and help connect some of the gaps between services — not come in and replace anyone.

I also think it's fair to acknowledge that some of the people developing 99+1 are coming into Southern Oregon from outside the area.

I understand why that earns a little skepticism.

Nobody needs somebody moving into town and immediately explaining Grants Pass to Grants Pass.

So we're doing a lot of listening.

We're talking with local organizations, treatment and recovery professionals, community leaders, businesses, healthcare people and people with lived experience. The more of this that can be built with Southern Oregon people, the better it will be.

Right now we're especially trying to meet people with experience in:

• Substance-use treatment and recovery
• CADC II/III and youth AOD treatment
• Addiction medicine and withdrawal management
• Nursing / NP leadership with detox experience
• Behavioral health and trauma
• Youth and foster-care services
• Juvenile justice and reentry
• Peer support
• Case management and family services
• Education and workforce development
• Facilities and operations
• Nonprofit and community leadership

Nothing about a project like this should be rushed, and there are licensing, funding and property pieces that still have to come together.

But finding the right people and building the right local relationships can start now.

Southern Oregon: who should we sit down and listen to?

Before buildings, programs, or services, there have to be relationships. As 99+1 works toward establishing operations in Southern Oregon, we want to learn from the people who live and work here—what’s helping, where the gaps are, and what we need to understand before taking the next step.

You might know an organization we should meet. You might have experience to share, an introduction to make, or an idea for working together. You don’t need to have all the answers to start a conversation.

Useful experience can include healthcare, behavioral health and substance-use treatment, finance or accounting, legal or compliance, nonprofit leadership, housing and homelessness, construction or facilities, philanthropy, business, and community leadership.

This is no longer simply a vision we're talking about. We have entered the work of making it happen.

99+1 From Ashes to Fire Revival Ministry Inc. is officially launching the capital campaign for The 99+1 Lighthouse, a permanent recovery and community resource center planned for downtown Plymouth.

We have identified a potential property and are actively working through acquisition, due diligence, public and private funding opportunities, regulatory preparation, and community partnerships. Because property negotiations remain ongoing, we will not publicly identify the location at this time.

There is still a tremendous amount of work ahead, and nothing about the property or public funding is guaranteed. But we believe the time has come to invite our community, businesses, foundations, churches, organizations, and individuals to help us build something extraordinary for Plymouth and Marshall County.

Sam and I graduated this weekend from the NAMI Connection Class!

Over the weekend, 15 individuals were trained and certified to facilitate NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups. These newly trained leaders are from Columbus, Muncie, Elkhart, Anderson, and Indy -- helping extend NAMI's presence in their local communities. Congratulations!
