Connected Families is welcoming a new president. πŸ’›

Meet Joe Dewey.

Joe and his wife, Courtney, are no strangers to the Connected Families Framework. They are both Certified Parent Coaches and have been living the Framework in their own home raising four kids. He first came to Connected Families as a part-time operations manager, and when Jim and Lynne needed to step back to focus on Lynne’s health, Joe stepped in and kept the ministry not just running, but growing.

This week, Stacy sits down with Jim, Lynne, and Joe to talk about the celebration event and where this ministry is headed next.

Here's what neuroscience tells us: when a child is dysregulated, their brain shifts into fight, flight, or freeze. Reasoning shuts down. Volume doesn't reach them.

A calm adult nervous system helps a child's nervous system settle. Researchers call it co-regulation.

Solomon called it a gentle answer.

This is a glimpse of what being biblically-grounded and research-informed looks like.

A parent wrote that in our research survey. She'd never seen our research goals, never read our framing. She just answered the question.

That's the whole thing, though. Parents look inward first, and what shifts in them starts shifting the relationship, the home, and eventually the generations that follow.

Being both biblically grounded and research-informed is a sweet spot that Connected Families fills. AND we’re not stopping there.

Research-informed means a program is built on established theory, incorporates credible research, and applies evidence-based practices. It’s a meaningful standard that Connected Families has met for over two decades.

Evidence-based means something more. Rigorous study design and peer-reviewed publication with replicable procedures.

Dr. Cindy Wilson, our Director of Education, Equipping and Research, leads a team at the Florida Center for Prevention Research at Florida State University that specializes in moving programs across that threshold. She joined our staff three years ago to do that work here.

Phase one of a five-phase plan is complete. Why does this matter? Because evidence opens doors to clinical referral networks, school partnerships, and denominational approval processes that remain closed to programs without it.

More doors opened means more families reached.

In this video from the series "Old People Acting Like Kids," Jim & Lynne Jackson (Founders Emeritus of Connected Families) role-play two ways this could go.

🎬 Take One: Abrupt demand leading to chasing her around and finally carrying her, kicking and screaming, to the car (anyone else been there? πŸ™‹)

🎬 Take Two: Parent came in slow and low and offered two fun/connective options to get to the car.

It won't always go that smoothly, even with great tools and posture, but Connected Families has long used role-plays to help parents visualize approaching situations in new and creative ways. It helps parents to show up differently, knowing that the only person we can control is *ourselves.*
