Can’t believe it’s been 6 years already since we started Grandma's Hands Inc. It’s been a blessing to try and help bring a little joy to the kids.
Welcome to Grandma's Hands Inc., we are so excited to make the announcement of the start of this non-profit. Imagine being a child who just got pulled away from your family to live with strangers, you are now a foster child. You now have to live with these strange people in a strange home, potentially in a strange school, and you don't know anything about them. Your complete world has been shaken after you have already experience significant trauma. Grandma's Hands is here to help foster relationships within foster families.
Have you ever meet a women so influential and caring that at her own funeral everyone went home with a handmade craft from her? That was the legacy that Darlene Martens left behind. When my husband and I started doing Foster Care, I knew that my grandmother would always be watching over me. When having my first foster child during times when I didn't know how to handle a situation I turned to the love and family bonding that my grandmother taught me. Doing things together through the art of craft and family board games. And yes...my foster child would always win at grandma's favorite game, Fast Track. Darlene treated everyone like family and was always providing her children, grandchildren and many other children activities to grow and develop as a family and individual. The goal of this non-profit is to build upon Grandma Darlene's legacy and provide this growth and development for foster children who so desperately need this.
