Always check with your local snowmobile club to see if the trail you are planning to use is open.
If you do venture out, remember to confirm FOUR inches of packed snow on trails on DCR properties, purchase your Snowmobile Association of Massachusetts (SAM) passes for private trails, renew your snowmobile registration with our agency, and be respectful of ongoing deer hunting activities, including those who have special access permits with ATV’s.

Fall Camping Safety Reminder:

As campgrounds begin closing for the season, the Massachusetts Environmental Police remind outdoor enthusiasts to camp only in designated areas and during approved times. Campfires must be built in authorized locations—such as fire rings or grills—and never left unattended.

With much of Massachusetts currently under significant drought conditions, the risk of wildfires is elevated. Please follow these essential fire safety practices:

Never build a fire outside of designated fire pits or grills

Keep fires small and manageable

Always have water and a shovel nearby to extinguish flames

Fully douse and stir ashes until they are cold to the touch before leaving

Never leave a fire unattended—even briefly

Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility. Help protect our forests, wildlife, and communities by staying informed and prepared.
