🌟 New Partnership Announcement 🌟

Pediatric Potential is honored to formalize a new collaborative partnership with Playright Children’s Play Association , a Hong Kong–based charity that has pioneered and championed children’s right to play since 1987.

Through this partnership, we will work together to strengthen and expand Playright’s Hospital Play Program that has supported pediatric patients and their families since 1994 through therapeutic play, procedural preparation, psychosocial support, and child-centered engagement in medical settings.

By combining Playright’s extensive playwork expertise with Pediatric Potential’s child life–focused training, capacity building, and international program development, we aim to:
✔️ Advance high-quality therapeutic and developmental play practices in hospitals and community health settings,
✔️ Support training pathways that build confidence and professional skills among healthcare play specialists and child life practitioners, and
✔️ Collaborate on resources, workshops, and knowledge-sharing that enhance the well-being of children and families during medical experiences.

At the heart of this partnership is our mutual mission: to reduce stress and anxiety for children in healthcare settings and to strengthen protective frameworks that support their resilience and well-being.

We look forward to working alongside the Playright team to help ensure that play—and psychosocial care—remain essential components of every child’s healthcare journey. 💛

🌍 This , help us give children a gentler hospital experience.

At Pediatric Potential, we’re on a mission to reshape pediatric healthcare — to ensure every child worldwide receives compassionate, developmentally-appropriate care that protects their well-being and dignity.

Thanks to supporters like you, we can help hospitals implement child-friendly practices, psychosocial support, pain management, and environments where children and families feel safe and heard.

🧸 Here’s how your gift makes a difference:
• A donation of $25 can help provide age-appropriate comfort items for a child in hospital.
• $50 can support staff training so healthcare teams can deliver trauma-informed, child-centered care.
• $100+ helps fund psychosocial services, play-and-learning spaces, for our partner hospitals, clinics and NGOs.

🎯 Our goal this is to raise $10,000 to expand our support to more hospitals — and bring healing, comfort and hope to even more children and families.

🌍💙 World Children’s Day

At Pediatric Potential, we believe that every child—no matter where they live or receive care—deserves to feel safe, supported, and empowered during hospitalization.

Today, we honor children’s rights to emotional well-being, play, and psychosocial support. These aren’t “extras” in healthcare; they are essential components of child- and family-centered care.

Our mission is to strengthen the resilience and well-being of hospitalized children worldwide by expanding access to high-quality Child Life and therapeutic play services.

Through training, capacity building, and partnership with healthcare teams globally, we work to ensure that every child has the opportunity to cope, heal, and thrive.

Every child deserves comfort. Every family deserves support.
Today and every day, we stand with them.

Play is often overlooked in healthcare, but its impact is profound.

It reduces anxiety, helps children cope with painful or frightening procedures, and even supports quicker recovery.

At Starlight, we provide play resources and training for healthcare professionals so children like Felix can face hospital stays with courage rather than fear.

Your donations make this possible.

🔺 September is Pain Awareness Month 🔺

At Pediatric Potential Inc. (PPI), we recognize pain relief as a fundamental physiological need— at the base of our Pediatric Patient’s Hierarchy of Developmental Needs™ (PPHDN). Without comfort, children cannot access safety, trust, or healing.

📊 Globally, over 60% of hospitalized children experience moderate to severe procedural pain. Yet many lack access to effective, developmentally appropriate relief.

🧠 Evidence-based psychosocial interventions—including preparation, distraction, and caregiver presence—can reduce procedural pain and distress by up to 50%.

🐝 Through our proud partnership with Pain Care Labs - Drug-Free Pain Solutions, we champion tools like Buzzy®, which uses cold and vibration to block pain signals. Buzzy empowers children to participate in their own care, restoring a sense of control and dignity.

🌍 From India to Laos to Brazil, we advocate for pain relief as a developmental right, not a privilege, because every child—regardless of geography—deserves comfort, connection, and care.

If your organization is interested in discussing evidence-based psychosocial solutions, please connect with us: https://www.pediatricpotential.org/

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

This month is dedicated to raising awareness of pediatric cancer, supporting children and families impacted by it, and advocating for progress in research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment toward finding a cure.

At Pediatric Potential, Inc. (PPI), our mission is to strengthen healthcare institutions to provide family-centered, evidence-based care for children. For families facing pediatric cancer, this means:

✅ Integrating patient and family voices into care planning
✅ Developing programs that address psychosocial and emotional needs
✅ Guiding advocacy and staff engagement strategies
✅ Expanding equitable access to supportive psychosocial services
✅ Promoting trauma-informed care for pediatric patients
✅ Supporting social and developmental needs, including peer connections and school reintegration
✅ Training staff to respond to stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges in the pediatric population

This September, we honor the courage of children with cancer and their families — and reaffirm our commitment to helping healthcare organizations create programs that deliver hope, healing, and comprehensive support.

💡 If your institution is looking to enhance or implement programs that support the psychosocial needs of vulnerable populations, PPI is here to help:

🤝✨ Pediatric Potential, Inc. and the Pensi Institute are proud to announce a new partnership!

Pediatric Potential is a U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to advancing pediatric psychosocial care worldwide. We collaborate with hospitals, clinics, and NGOs to ensure children and families receive culturally responsive, rights-based support in healthcare settings. Through training, supervision, program development, curriculum design, and research, we strengthen local capacity and promote child-friendly, evidence-based care.

Pensi Institute is a leading Brazilian non-profit devoted to education and research in child health. Together with Sabará Children’s Hospital and Infinis Institute, it forms part of the José Luiz Setúbal Foundation — the largest ecosystem in Brazil focused on children’s health.

Inspired by Dr. Sandra Mutarelli Setúbal, Pensi introduced the Child Life Specialist role to Sabará in São Paulo, hiring the first intern in 2019. Today, the team includes 11 professionals and a coordinator dedicated to emotional well-being, therapeutic play, active listening, and child-centered care.

🌟 Through this partnership, we aim to reinforce Pensi Institute’s position as a Latin American reference in the Child Life field, expand research, and strengthen evidence-based practices aligned with international standards. Together, we will work to ensure emotionally safe, resilient healthcare for children in Brazil and beyond.

🤱🌍 Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) at Pediatric Potential, Inc.

At Pediatric Potential, we recognize breastfeeding as a powerful cornerstone of family-centered care, particularly for infants in the NICU.

During World Breastfeeding Week, we join the global community in advocating for the development and implementation of informed, supported, and equitable breastfeeding practices and policies in healthcare institutions.

When parents are empowered as active partners in their baby’s care, everyone benefits, including the medical team.

Promoting breastfeeding in the NICU isn't just a health initiative; it's also an equity, inclusion, and developmental care initiative.

We’re thrilled to introduce Asma as our new Research Fellow at Pediatric Potential and honored to have her as part of our team.

Asma is a dedicated Associate Clinical Psychologist whose work centers on pediatric palliative care, grief support, and the integration of psychosocial care into pediatric oncology services. With experience across hospital-based and clinical settings, she has been a driving force behind training and capacity-building efforts in Pakistan and beyond.

🧠 World Brain Day 2025: Brain Health for All Ages 🧠

At Pediatric Potential Inc., we believe protecting a child’s brain health means caring for their entire experience, not just their physical recovery. Hospital stays and medical procedures can be overwhelming, leaving lasting effects on a child’s developing brain.

This World Brain Day, we’re proud to support Brain Health for all ages by offering services to organizations, institutions, and healthcare teams.

We develop individualized plans tailored to their unique needs, providing evidence-based education, tools, and resources that enhance staff performance, promote child-friendly environments, and support children’s autonomy during medical care. Together, these efforts help elevate services and foster positive patient and family experiences.

Every child deserves care that safeguards their physical and emotional well-being, laying a strong foundation for lifelong brain health. Together, we can make healthcare safer, more compassionate, and more supportive for every child.
